The player who plays the Silvanesti Mystic in my KoD campaign is at a key point in his development.

Before creating him, he and I talked about maybe converting his character to a Cleric later. His character is sort of offended by the gods, to the extent that he is resentful of the fact that they left all of the people of Krynn to fend for themselves.

However, my players just got into the Shattered Temple, and discovered the stuff in the spider sacs after killing the giant spiders.

I was reading ahead last night and realized that there is a Medallion of Faith (Habbakuk) in there, and thought "Wow, these cats really set us up well here." That having been said, I set it up so that this character opened up that sac. When he held the Medallion, he felt a peace like no other, and his doubts of whether or not the gods had returned were washed away.

From this point, what should I do? Would it be feasible to have Habbakuk "talk" into his mind every now and then, and eventually have him turn over to his worship? I was thinking of that, and it'd work out...but would Habbakuk take an active enough role to chat with him, so to speak?

In the period following the War of Souls, I believe the gods are even more overt about making their presences known to their faithful or to those who they deem suited for a life as a cleric. In my campaign, an afflicted half-kender favored soul of Habbakuk PC was often spoken to by his deity, usually through mysterious or indirect means. In Hurim, for example, one of the statues of Habbakuk seemed to animate briefly, speaking to him. On another occasion while traveling over the Khurman Sea, an albatross landed on the boat and spoke with him.

In Dragonlance you should never worry about the gods speaking to their clerics. Go ahead and have the mystic visited by an emissary or representative of Habbakuk, or have a mural featuring the god seem to move. The other heroes won't see it, maybe, but the mystic will undoubtedly feel personally chosen to serve.

Cheers,
Cam

Even though the gods take a more active part in Krynn I'd go the indirect route. I'd let the player have visions or visited in their dreams by the deity while they sleep. I also like Cam's idea of the statues animating briefly.

I'd save the direct contact with the gods till the player was higher level. Thats just IMHO though.

Remember, though, when he does start his epiphany to change from Mystic to Cleric, he basically becomes a 1st level cleric for the entirety of a level as far as spellcasting is concerned. He also gains a 20% XP penalty for the duration of the first two Cleric levels (if i remember correctly).

Also, to Elfwhatshisname, read the "Dragonlance Boards FAQ" at the top of the list of threads in this board. That will explain what game this is. Learning acronyms is your friend.

"KOD" or "KoD" is the acronym for the game they are talking about. It is the first of a trilogy of modules that are designed to take your characters from 1st level to about 20th level. It came out in...May, I think. It is called Key of Destiny. The sequel will be called Spetre of Sorrows and should be out probably sometime around the beginning of the year. Then the third one will be Price of Courage (I think) which is proably a year and a half or more away from coming out.

We are still waiting on a big errata from KoD at the moment...although really, it's not fair to call it an "errata"...it's really more of an add on, I think. Anyway...hopefully sometime soon that will be out. (it will be a Web Enhancement)
