My new history....

Okay, in one of my previous threads, I was discussing an alternate hisotry of athas. I wanted reasons why it was untouched by other planes, why the rhulsiti decided to change themselves, one without a heavy use of the prsitine tower/dark lens. Well, I finally somewaht suceeded! I post for you viewing pleasure (or dis-pleasure as the case may be) my rough history.

The nature masters were at war with the nature benders. The Benders created the Brown Tide as a means of attacking the Masters. It ate life and would destory the Masters power basis of tech-creatures...not to mention food, etc... The Benders became very violent, being the first of the Rhulisti to attack others of their kind. A great war ensured. The Masters were loosing for lack of violent ability.
The Masters decided to try a last ditch effort. There were attempting to destory the tide as the Benders by harnessing the planets life energy. This could only be done with a device called the Pristine Tower. And it had to be fed by the Masters own lifeforce. They failed. They did change the planet by comsuning so much of it's own energy. Thus birthing the green age. Their attempt didn't stop the tide but put it in a kinda suspended animation. And in the process, all of the Masters were killed (maybe one or two lived...)
The Benders were almost wiped out, leaving only a handful of them in a brand new world, with no means to poulate. So the Benders used their technology to create dimensions rifts and birng in many amny different species that they enslaved and forced to worship them as gods. They made them build great cities with vast bases of power. But eventually the slaves decided to escape. Many formed cells and large gorups of slaves would escape at one. Many found their ways to the rifts and escpaed from athas completely. The Benders wanted this to stop so they attempted to close all the portals at once. They succeeded, but waayy too well. They created the black with enshrouded the world and cut it off from everything else. With nowhere to run, the slaves attacked and overthrew their masters. (Killing them all?)
Then enter Rajaat. His history is nearly the same, except in his discovery of magic and his research he discovers about the Masters and what happened. He beileves that only when the Masters are returned will the world be free again and people can return to homes. To do this he began the Cleansing Wars to kill everyone else. Then he used the Dark Lens (an item of his creation because he couldn't access the Masters devices without aid, and his aid was magical) to help him use the Tower to try and transform him and his champions into Masters. However, he failed. It changed them, but into SK and not into Masters. It also awoke the brown tide. And through the defiling magic used in the wars, the brown tide and the further use of the planets own energy, created the athas that we know and love. Borys still rebelled and the rest is really close to the hisotry that we know.

Well? I tried to stick true to the DS feel but change the stuff that I was uncomfortable with. I view it kinda as a blending of DS history and more reasons that float around in my head. What'cha all think?

What are you getting at here?
who can return to their homes - humans, halflings? Do you mean the world will be returned to the halflings (under the control of the masters) once everyone else is killed?

Also im not a big fan of the dimensional portals carting races around, too much like the forgotten realms with its big migrations and portals to everywhere (even though you then shut them all off). How about the original races were created by the benders/masters to fight or serve? Dwarves might have been a bender creation for a mining/working race. Elves might have been a hunter race, and humans might have been the servants.

Was it the brown tide that made the sea of silt? and is it still around or has it finally gone?

That Rajaat would bring the master back (by making himself and champions one) and then they would be able to effective get rid of the black so athas would not be isolated.

I like that idea, but I needed to have some reson why athas is cut off from everything else, ya know?

Yes, the brown tide is what changed the seas to silt. And yes, theoretically it is still around, and it can probably infect other large bodies of water. Hey, maybe that's even why the silt finds it why into waterskins so easily. ;)

Okay, thanks for the explain on the "masters" didnt realise you meant rajaat wanted to become one. And i imagine humanocentric Borys and Hamanu wouldnt have wanted to become halflings, and Dregoth would have thought of it as a step backwards

Could the black have been created when the halflings used the dark lens to stop the brown tide? In effect confining it not only on Athas but making sure it couldnt escape to other worlds (by creating the black and preventing its escape). Now that the dark lens is trapped in the obsidian of the valley of dust and fire, and its power is been diluted by been spread over a million tons of obsidian the brown tide is able to return.

Did you ever see a really B-grade horror movie in the 80's calledthe Stuff ?
The stuff looked like icecream and took over people, hollowing out their insides and controlling them (making em into zombies), then could come out of their mouths and try to take over other people :D
it could be the brown tide (though that comes out of the other end )

I've always "imagined" that the rhulsiti were not just ancient and advanced halflings but looked more like humans.

But thats just me. I just can't myself to feel shock and awe for super-halflings. I keep think Frodo Baggins. Sorry.

I realized that I was sooo impressed with the Stuff reference that i didn't actually address the rest of the post. :< Opps, sorry.

That's fine, but it doesn't explain how it turned all the water to silt and was still active during/after the cleansing wars...ya know?

That's one of the things I really like...I always wanted a reason as to why the sea became silt.

The silt had been quasi-explained. Basically, it's the fine grained dust and ash that has simply collected in the basins that once held water. Where'd all the dust and ash come from? Well, what do defilers leave behind when they cast their spells? Ash. The ash eventually breaks down, and mixes with dust, and begins to build up in the basins. Remember, there's literally thousands of years for this to happen, and there was a *lot* of land that had been defiled. Don't forget also - the plants in the seas were defiled, and I'm sure the fish weren't doing all that good either. Without trees holding topsoil and blocking winds as much, the dust would head towards places where they could collect, ie. the sea basins.

The answer is no because the Dark Lens didn't exist in the Blue age.

1--According to the official DS accessory: Psionic artifacts of Athas (page 7). The DrakLens is thought to have been created by Rajaat at the end of the time of magic.(the Green Age which is after the Brown Tide event)

2--In the event it was not Rajaat who created the artifact, only single or multi-classed psionisist could use the DL. (because it is a PSIONIC artifact)So, the Rhulisti cannot be the creators(psionic was non-existant in the Blue Age.) of the said artifact (even less use it.) ---Well, nowadays they could.

I suggest you change "Dark lens" for "Pristine Tower" in the quote above.

Unless this is all about your alternate history of Athas which you could say anything( even that Rhulisti were using psionic.) "shivers"

Sorry me bad, should have said pristine tower.

How about pristine tower used by halflings to trap the brown tide by creating the black (which used up enough power to change the color of the sun). Putting the brown tide in a dormant state, as well as erecting the black as a barrier so the tide couldnt escape to other worlds.

Later on Rajaat created the Dark lens to channel the power of the black. OR the dark lens was created at this time (as a physical manifestation of the black) and the halflings left it when they went out and became the new races. It is a psionic artifact, its just no one at the time had the ability to use it. When rajaat arrived in the tower he thought it was mighty pretty and used it.

Its his alternate history not mine - my alternate history is under wraps ;)

I might incorporate that if I'm using the races were created by the benders idea. Then I don't have to deal with the portals...hmmmmmmm

My curiosity is piqued. Gonna spill anything?!?1
