#1PennarinAug 07, 2004 1:49:16 | Here's the finished product. :D Black Sand Raider “We ride like the wind, strike like the scorpion, and kill like a pouncing tigone.” - Zeburon, leader of the Black Sand Raiders Slaves “liberated” by the Black Sand Raiders or especially vicious individuals fleeing enemies at home often join the tribe, although for the survivors of a raid by the tribe do not have a choice: they most join on the spot or die. Only slaves can join, and must pass the test given by the tribe’s defiler, Fevil. Those that become members of the tribe and survive its hardships often become very tough and develop a resistance to fear, as well as an ease in inflicting it unto others. Anyone can take levels in the Black Sand raider prestige class, although mostly warriors survive the rigors of testing and thus often advance in the class. Members of any race are welcome within the tribe as long as they are slaves, although only the toughest among those survive long enough to advance in this prestige class. Not all residents of the Black Sand camp take levels in this class, only the meanest and strongest of the lot. All Black Sand raiders can be found at one time or another camping in the Black Sand ruins or on raiding expeditions. Rank among the raiders is determined by power and its exercise, usually in the form of violence. A process of elimination, in which those of lower rank challenge those above them in combat, is the way rank is gained in the tribe. The rankings determine who has first share of everything: spoils, food and slaves. Hit Die: d10. Requirements: To qualify to become a Black Sand raider (BkS), a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +4. Skills: Intimidate 5 ranks, Ride 2 rank. Feats: Wastelander. Special: Membership in the Black Sand Raiders tribe. Class Skills: The Black Sand raider’s class skills (and key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Spot (Wis), and Survival (Wis). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. |

#3kalthandrixJul 07, 2005 14:05:12 | How about Reaver of the Black Sands for a name? The PrC looks pretty cool. One question- do you think there should be an alignment requitement- say like any non-good or non-lawful. I only ask due to the background of the Black Sands tribe. |
#4PennarinJul 07, 2005 14:09:07 | It is an NPC PrC...as far as PrCs can be made exclusively for NPCs. Nice name, I'll try it out! Black Sand Reaver is better yet. |
#5ruhl-than_sageJul 07, 2005 20:33:44 | Short, but sweet and to the point. This PrC gets my approval! |
#6PennarinJul 07, 2005 22:22:27 | Thanks to Kalthandrix I changed the name of the class from Black Sand Raider to Black Sand Reaver. Thanks to Shei-Nad I made the following changes: - Changed the Fearless ability to Brazen, and made it an extraordinary ability. - Renamed the Demoralize ability to Infamy and added a fluff line to it. A question: I keep writing the name "Black Sand reaver"...note the capital and small letters. Can I write "black sand reaver", or not? I can't remember if we can write "urikite templar" or if we're forced to write "Urikite templar"... Black Sand is a geographical region after all. Note: If anyone wondered, the Black Sand Region (see Favored Terrain above) is a circle 10-miles in diameter. The reference for that info is in the image booklet in Dragon's Crown. |
#7murkafJul 08, 2005 6:30:30 | Note: It is also found on the cloth map in the Revised and Expanded Campaign Setting... |
#8jon_oracle_of_athasJul 15, 2005 8:43:20 | Black Sand Reaver is better yet. Except it causes confusion with the existing Reaver prc. Black Sand Raider is better since it avoids confusion and is to the point. Black Sand Marauder might work. |
#9PennarinJul 15, 2005 14:30:51 | Ok, I'll change it to Black Sand Marauder. The dictionary definition is about the same as Reaver anyways. |
