#1zombiegleemaxAug 15, 2004 11:09:49 | As I'm sure you all know, the non-revised 2E Dark Sun boxed set is, for some reason, full of mis-prints, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Strangely, the ability requirements for a templar are listed as Wisdom 3, Intelligence 10. This is supposed to be Wisdom 13, right? No stat can go below 3 normally, and a templar's prime requisite is wisdom... Mark. |
#2KamelionAug 15, 2004 11:26:31 | How odd... My copy of the first DS boxed set lists the requirements as Wis 9, Int 10, both on the summary table and in the class description. They were given the same requirements in the 2nd version too (although that wasn't in the 2nd box). |
#3zombiegleemaxAug 15, 2004 13:25:02 | Oh dear - on the summary table it lists templar as intelligence 10, wisdom 7. What's more, it lists defiler as requiring intelligence 3. |
#4KamelionAug 15, 2004 13:55:33 | Mondo bizarro. Here are the requirements from the 1st DS box, in case you don't have them at all: Gladiator - Str 13, Dex 12, Con 15 Defiler - Int 9 Templar - Int 10, Wis 9 Psionicist - Con 11, Int 12, Wis 15 The 2nd Box made these additions: Preserver - Int 9, Wis 11 Bard - Dex 13, Int 14, Cha 16 Trader - Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 12 |
#5zombiegleemaxAug 15, 2004 16:07:32 | Yeah, I have the other ones alright. Is your first 2E boxed set rife with spelling mistakes, misprints and grammatical errors too? You see, I've ordered a proper campaign set from Ebay but it hasn't arrived yet - my current one is in PDF format (downloaded with a file-sharing program) and the spelling etc. is horrendous. There are many wrong numbers as well (the double-templar ****-up being one). Re: the stars, I wasn't being obscene, but it looks like 'c o c k' is unacceptable language on the Wizards boards....hmm |
#6nytcrawlrAug 15, 2004 16:51:55 | Originally posted by Toxophilly That might be why. You probably got ahold of someone's home rules that look similar to the real thing. I suggest getting the real mccoy from SVGames or RPGNow, it's only a few bucks for the pdf. |
#7zombiegleemaxAug 15, 2004 17:09:16 | Hmm, well I've downloaded several PDFs from SV Games already, and although it has some mistakes in it I'm pretty sure my PDF of the campaign setting is a proper one - it has the maps, the adventure and the flip books, both covers, all the art etc. Well with some luck my proper one will arrive in a couple of days anyway. Does anyone have 'Thri-Kreen of Athas' 'Terrors Beyond Tyr' or 'Slave Tribes' as a PDF? I'd swap it with someone if they did, I have: Campaign Setting Dragon Kings Elves of Athas Monstrous Compendium - Dark Sun Appendix Earth, Air, Fire and Water Marauders of Nibenay. I am, of course, refering to the 2E PDF versions of these books, not the 3E ones that can be downloaded more easily. Thanks, Mark. |
#8KamelionAug 15, 2004 17:36:40 | Originally posted by Toxophilly Nope, mine is fine - I got it the week the setting was released too. Oddness. Maybe your version is a bit corrupt or a bad scan or cursed or something. That would be kinda cool, actually - a cursed DS box... |

#10zombiegleemaxAug 15, 2004 21:01:45 | Not every book that is screwed up comes from a whole batch of equally screwed up prints. Sometimes, the machines only mess up a small number of them in the run. I've got a Veilled Alliance book where the pages jump around, 1-12, then 26-31, back to 10-14, then to 40-50, then 26 till then end (approximating the page numbers just to give reference). Likely its the only one out of the run to come out quite so screwed up. I kept it though, for a personal laugh, then went and picked up another (checking this time to make sure it was fine) from the same store, same shipment. No problems at all with the second one. |
#11zombiegleemaxAug 16, 2004 1:39:18 | I have the Dark Sun PDF from SVgames.com, and it has the same misprints that Toxophilly describes. It happens from time to time with the SVgames PDFs, it's just a mistake made by their OCR software that wasn't caught by whatever proofreading process they use (if they even proofread the PDFs before making them available for sale). My Thri-kreen of Athas PDF has a few mistakes as well, but generally they are obvious misspellings. Mistakes with numbers are a bit trickier to fix. |
#12zombiegleemaxAug 16, 2004 11:14:39 | I had wondered actually whether they had scanned it in, and a few of the more unclear numbers were mis-interpreted. I'd say MrSpatula has solved the mystery. MrSpatula, is there some way you could send me Thri-Kreen of Athas, or something like that? Mark. |
#13zombiegleemaxAug 16, 2004 14:20:56 | No. For one thing, I'm stuck with dial-up for the moment and I don't have the webspace to host it. For another thing, you can get it yourself for $5, which is hardly any kind of great burden. http://store.yahoo.com/svgames-store/ds2437esd.html |
#14zombiegleemaxAug 16, 2004 15:10:32 | Ok, that's no problem. It's possible to download Dark Sun PDFs with file sharing programs, but really the program I use is pretty bad and so downloading them is very frustrating and slow. I've bought several PDFs from SV games before, but to be honest it's a bit of a faff, since I don't have a credit card and we don't live in America, so I have to borrow one from someone else and then pay them back in pounds. Of course, if I can avoid paying £2.75 or whatever then that's a bonus too (being a student)... Cheers, Mark. |

Which is also highly illegal and very much against the terms of agreement that you signed when you joined up with these boards, a slight edit of your above little plug may help alleviate any possible banning of your account. |
