#1zombiegleemaxAug 22, 2004 13:48:27 | So the Monster Manual III was floating around GenCon, apparently, and it contains new 3.5e versions of the four yugoloths from the MOTP. Not sure why they bothered... the ultroloth has now been advanced to a whopping CR 13. Man, what is it with WOTC and these pansy-ass neutral exemplars? The guardinals got similar treatment, with none of them being over CR 12. Bizarre. Edit: obligatory link to Pants' revised yugoloths. |
#2incenjucarAug 22, 2004 16:25:34 | The only partaially neutral beings of any strength anymore are Slaadi and the Ants, mainly because both are evil-as-used. |
#3zombiegleemaxAug 22, 2004 18:29:47 | The Modron WE for Manual of the Planes had the CR 19 Secondus (and an unstated Primus, although he is referred to as a lesser, rather than greater, deity). |
#4richard_kAug 22, 2004 20:04:24 | Primus should be a Greater Diety as he does have a couple of milliion modrons at his call. Damn why cant he go rogue and wipe out the silly ants. |
#5ripvanwormerAug 22, 2004 20:34:13 | Just played in a game at Gen Con revolving, in part, around intrigue in a formian court between the queen and three princesses. It rocked very much. Now I like formians even more. |
#6incenjucarAug 22, 2004 21:37:41 | True enough, modrons did keep their decent power in 3e. They just never made it in the book. And the ants -do- have plenty of flavor all their own, just not as the keepers of the gears; they track dirt all over the place. |
#7richard_kAug 22, 2004 21:46:20 | Yeah i spose the ants are alright. Well they are now after i rewatched Aliens. Gives me ideas. "There comin from the walls, there comin from the ******* walls" hehe |
#8Shemeska_the_MarauderAug 22, 2004 22:50:50 | Oh I like Formians plenty, just not as natives of mechanus. I don't mind them as renegades infesting Mechanus as part of the Harmonium's misguided actions. They make great theats to the plane, but they're not in any way exemplars of LN as WotC has seemingly tried to pull the wool over our eyes on. And yes, the pumped up Ultroloth still is a pansy. Any Arcanaloth worth their salt could take one of them out. But then again, the 'loths have never been about power being equal to actual ability, but rather the appearance of ability. Sneaky little godless abominations we are... GenCon rocked, got to meet Rip, got to play in that same Formian intrigue PS game. All was good. And I now own the original Alienist PrC picture. Wayne Reynolds rocks. |
#9richard_kAug 23, 2004 3:10:54 | Yeah Gencon was awesome. oh wait i didnnt go cause im stuck in australia. damn Pacific Ocean why couldnt it have a big road straight across it. |
#10zombiegleemaxAug 23, 2004 12:50:15 | Originally posted by Shemeska the Marauder Yah, well... but does the new ultroloth have enough bluff ranks to even pull it off and beat the sense motive checks of arcanaloths, balors, pit fiends, etc.? Somehow, I doubt it... I was kind of hoping they have enough sense to make it CR20. |
#11the_serge7Aug 23, 2004 15:31:01 | Originally posted by Seraph of Babel I've given up on sense from WotC when it comes to most things planar. The hack job WotC has done with the archfiends, yugoloths, and modrons is nothing less than disgusting. |
#12richard_kAug 23, 2004 18:44:14 | The Serge says it like it is. |
#13zombiegleemaxAug 23, 2004 19:46:13 | Originally posted by The Serge7 Hmmm...if only someone else, a group of like-minded individuals - "freaks," so to speak - could rectify the situation with their own free products. If only... *is looking forward to chapter four* |
#14Shemeska_the_MarauderAug 23, 2004 20:36:16 | Well I'll be posting up a little side project on the Baernaloths at some point in the future, but I'll be working more on flavor than numbers (though I'll have stat blocks for each of the 13). Yummy fiction, I'm personally proud of a few of them. |
#15zombiegleemaxAug 24, 2004 5:46:28 | Originally posted by Shemeska the Marauder I think there's a metaplot over the formians. A formian archqueen turned evil is slowly falling to the Nine Hells (or at least, Acheron). She took a whole layer out of Arcadia with her fall, and for the time she and her hives spend in Mechanus, she'll try to grab as much cogland with her to the lowe planes. |
#16sildatorakAug 24, 2004 12:27:05 | Originally posted by Gez Cogs floating around in Acheron seems very appropriate. Perhaps given enough eons of banging together they will be smashed down to be more or less cubic. |
#17zombiegleemaxSep 03, 2004 16:19:15 | Indeed, Yugoloth's got no respect from WoTC (vile evil beings they can be). My advice, FIND THE BLOODY 2ND EDITION STATS AND WORK YOUR WAY FROM THERE! Those were pretty decent stats. |
