#2mortellanSep 08, 2004 1:55:40 | I think Tharizdun likes to avoid the papparazzi. ;) j/k |
#3MortepierreSep 08, 2004 3:10:19 | You could use this. In any case, the fact that you don't find pic of him anywhere is understandable. After all, he has been rotting in his prison for a long time. It's not like PC are bound to encounter him anywhere these days... |
#4AmarilSep 08, 2004 10:04:44 | There was a picture of him in Dragon #294. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 11, 2004 18:32:16 | Anywhere I could find that picture? |
#6zombiegleemaxSep 11, 2004 19:47:59 | Uh, why not try Dragon #294. It's not that hard to track down. |
#7zombiegleemaxSep 11, 2004 20:32:25 | Because I don't have a scanner, and I need a picture for a document I'm making :P |
#8MortepierreSep 12, 2004 3:19:29 | I wouldn't bother with that one, it wasn't very good. Kind of plain ugly in fact. |
#9AmarilSep 12, 2004 8:25:25 | I wouldn't bother with that one, it wasn't very good. Kind of plain ugly in fact. I rather liked it. It was a good chaotically dark depiction of a Tharizdun. The artist, Anthony Granato, created images that are typically dark, eerie, and mentally disturbing -- perfect for a god like Tharizdun. Personally, I think he should have done the artwork for the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil to help give it the feel that module should have. |
#10lincoln_hillsSep 15, 2004 21:17:43 | I'm off-topic here, but one thing I've learned (thanks, Mr. Lovecraft!) is that things which can be perceived are not as downright spooky as things that can only be inferred. Tharizdun is one of those "mental images" which is better off left half-unformed in the mind of the individual player. He's sure to be comprised of old nightmares and bits of old 'ancient evil' that way, rather than being shown on a piece of paper. Show your guys that piece of paper, say, "This is Tharizdun," and that's what they'll think of the ancient evil as: a picture on a piece of paper. If, for some reason, I wanted Tharizdun to appear (say, as a dream-sending - or a magical "image" recorded in some pre-human artifact), I'd probably say, "Aside from a deep queasiness in your belly and a sensation of all-consuming cold, you can't perceive this being. It's not as if He is invisible - it's more that your mind cannot understand or accept what it's being told by your eyes." The less they KNOW, the more they dread... |

In fact that's why some movie goers found films like Jaws and The Blair Witch Project so scary. You never see the actual 'monster.' It's what we don't see or know that scares us. |
#12GreysonSep 16, 2004 12:22:05 | Bastard Greyhawk has a cool image of what the Dark God might look like. Check it out HERE. |
#13OleOneEyeSep 17, 2004 0:59:24 | Is the cover of "Come Endless Darkness" supposed to be Tharizdun? |
#14thanaelSep 17, 2004 3:16:08 | Bastard GH's pic: http://www.wizards.com/cthulhu/images/gallery/5_x34p/Coc_56.jpg Lovecraftian alien formless slime Come Endless Darkness: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~monax002/Council/resources/novels/novels.html The pic is probably depicting the big T in one of his forms. In his hands he holds Iuz. I believe it's a scene near the end of the book. (IMO the art sucks though...) |

#16GreysonSep 21, 2004 1:19:02 | Oh yea. The cover of WG4, of course. Thanks Allan - that module practically stares me in the face as I sit at my desk here, and I did not even think about that. Thanks for pointing the obvious out to a knucklehead like me. That is a classic picture - the Dark God standing there, faceless, and surrounded by the masses of tentacles that have come to represent him as much as his obex. Very cool. |
#17orodruinSep 21, 2004 7:04:09 | A larger version of "Come Endless Darkness": http://www.rpgunited.com/picture/greyhawk/tsrn0060.jpg And a foreign edition; "La Notte Infinita" (though I don't know if that's Tharizdun depicted on the cover): http://www.fantascienza.com/catalogo/Cover/06446.jpg |
