#1zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2004 8:09:50 | Sad man that I am, I was recently making a list of all the noble houses listed in the LGG, when I came across something strange. It turns out that there's a House of Derwent in both Furyondy and Keoland. The Kingdom of Furyondy Derwent: Viscounty of the March; Gorsend; Viscount Luther, N male human Ftr4 The Kingdom of Keoland Derwent: March of Sedenna; Plampton; Margrave Erlich, LN male human Ftr11 Is this a strange and bizzare coincidence or is there something to it? Would any LGG authors like to comment? P. |

I can't remember if the Keoish Empire stretched that far north or not. Once again... just a guess. |
#3zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2004 8:22:45 | Also, if the Flanaess aristocracies are anything like Medieval Europe, then intermarriage between members of the noble classes of different countries was not at all unusual. Maybe a noble house in either Keoland or Furyondy had run out of male heirs and ended up marrying a female heiress off to a Derwent son from another country in lieu of a native noble? That could happen if there would have been political repercussions to favoring the son of one local noble house over the sons of others. |

Both families have almost certainly ruled their provinces from the beginning of their respective kingdoms. A few more thoughts. The Derwents are almost certainly Oeridian. I don't believe either province or kingdom is likely to have a ruling Flan noble. It is possible that the Derwent family split at the Fals Gap, some going south and some going east. It would then only be slightly odd for a non-Aerdi noble family to rule a province in Furyondy. I would say it is just a coincidence of name, but you may get Gary Holian to chime in and admit or deny some connection. |

That was kind of my read on it too, but like you, I wouldn't mind an offical comment from Mr Holian or others. Especially since those Keoish noble family trees often resemble circuit boards... P. |

Circuit boards. You must be thinking of the Neheli. They are ahhhhhh close. Yes, that's it, close. But it is a nearly 1,000 year old empire. Things get a little confusing after awhile. |
#8zombiegleemaxSep 09, 2004 17:09:03 | Yes, its the same familly. Quite intentionally so. And as suspected, the Derwents are Oeridians. They are spread throughout the Flanaess, comprising many branches in fact... not just in Keoland and Furyondy. (Think Gellors, with less nobility....) Its a long and sordid story, but all these branches are somewhat related, dating as far back as the early Great Kingdom and the late migrations. There is definitely something to it, but whether its interesting or sinister is up to you (IMC its a little of both.) Its a thread I've been developing since the Marklands and has been very fruitful. -Gary |
#9zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2004 13:03:46 | Aha! I knew there had to be something to it... An Oeridian family that span both Furyondy and Keoland. Very interesting... One wonders where their true loyalty lies, to blood or realm? P. |
