#1DragonhelmSep 09, 2004 16:47:16 | I thought I would let everyone know that the Nexus has posted an interview with Doug Niles! In the interview, we discuss Wizards' Conclave, as well as the upcoming book Lord of the Rose, and 20 years of Dragonlance. Plus, check out how his game design affects his writing! Enjoy! Doug Niles Interview |

#3DragonhelmSep 09, 2004 17:02:28 | Might want to correct your front page, Trampas. The link seems to continue through the Glitterback entry. I did, but it may take a bit to show up. One little typo... EDIT: Fixed! |
#4iltharanosSep 09, 2004 20:27:43 | I thought I would let everyone know that the Nexus has posted an interview with Doug Niles! Yowzah. A hero that helps Solamnia to become something like an empire through the acquisition of a new power based on technology and not magic, and the trilogy also features Coryn? On Solamnia becoming strong: Can't wait! A new power based on technology: Gnomes? Gnome-like humans?? Ooooohhh. Gunpowder?!? Firearms?!? On Coryn: Hmm ... the jury's still out on that issue ... |
#5quentingeorgeSep 10, 2004 2:40:49 | Niles says Coryn is part of a Romantic subplot... ...is Coryn going to end up Empress of Solamnia? EDIT: The setting is Solamnia, a few years after the War of Souls. While the Solamnic orders of the ancient realm have managed to kick out the Dark Knights, who ruled until the end of the War of Souls, their hold is tenuous. Finally..kicking the stinkin' dark knights out of Palanthas...Solamnia for Solamnics...Nerakans in Neraka! :D |
#6zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2004 7:12:25 | Wow that sounds exciting... I wonder what technology it is... My first guess would have to be gunpowder or something explosive like that. So iguess technology is advancing as well as storyline... Wow i wonder if our kids are gonna have something like DRAGONLANCE 40,000K like that warhammer stuff... |
#7DragonhelmSep 10, 2004 7:17:18 | One thing to keep in mind is that the KoS are fascinated with technology, ergo why they put up with tinker gnomes so much. So if it is gunpowder, that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I'm just glad that they're reclaiming their homeland. |
#8iltharanosSep 10, 2004 13:08:06 | One thing to keep in mind is that the KoS are fascinated with technology, ergo why they put up with tinker gnomes so much. If it is gunpowder it'd be a truly startling development. In our own world, the introduction of gunpowder (and guns) eventually led to the decline of the armored knight. How ironic would that be that in deploying their new power (gunpowder) the Knights of Solamnia actually end up seeding their future decline. |
#9zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2004 15:00:02 | Or the Solamnic Knights will evolve with the times and become Dragonlance's answer to the musketeers of France. |
#10DragonhelmSep 10, 2004 15:09:07 | We should keep in mind that we have no idea if it will be gunpowder or not. It may be something completely different. Remember, the Solamnics are all about honor, and I don't see where using gunpowder is honorable when compared to fighting man-to-man in battle. |
#11SysaneSep 10, 2004 15:11:11 | We should keep in mind that we have no idea if it will be gunpowder or not. It may be something completely different. There's no restriction for them in using a bow and what not. I'd assume the same would go for black powder weapons. |
#12iltharanosSep 10, 2004 15:28:27 | We should keep in mind that we have no idea if it will be gunpowder or not. It may be something completely different. Honor has never stopped the Solamnic Knights from utilizing decisive tactical advantages against their opponents. 1. Good dragons as mounts/aerial cavalry. 2. Bows 3. Seige weaponry 4. Heavy cavalry 5. Gnomish flame-throwers The Knights aren't forswearing the use of any of the above for the sake of fighting man-to-man in battle, so why do so for gunpowder? Is gunpowder really more dishonoring than having a multi-ton flying breath-spewing quadraped carnivore blasting your opponents to shreds? |
#13cam_banksSep 10, 2004 15:29:22 | Remember, the Solamnics are all about honor, and I don't see where using gunpowder is honorable when compared to fighting man-to-man in battle. Honor is alive and well all the way through the Industrial Revolution and into the Napoleonic Era and everything after that, so it's probably not an issue so long as the Solamnics don't start shooting people in the back or ambushing them on forest roads from the trees. Cheers, Cam |
#14DragonhelmSep 10, 2004 15:36:52 | I guess it's a matter of how it's approached. Gunpowder vs. a dragon? Sure, no prob. In the middle of a siege? I could see it, although I'd think the Solamnics would prefer hand-to-hand combat. Then again, after having Khellendros in their lands for so long, maybe they're loosening up. *shrugs* |
#15iltharanosSep 10, 2004 15:40:45 | Heck, the Solamnic Knights are even beginning to recruit SAMs (Solamnic Auxiliary Mages, not Surface-to-Air Missiles) that can hurl fire and brimstone at their opponents. After such a move, I don't really see gunpowder being much of an issue. |
#16DragonhelmSep 10, 2004 15:53:17 | As opposed to surface-to-air mages. ;) Hey, Brimstone, how do you feel about being hurled like that? ;) |
#17quentingeorgeSep 10, 2004 16:36:43 | Gunpowder first appeared in the early 14th century on our world. Armoured knights hung around for quite a bit longer. (In fact they reached their pinnacle around the time gunpowder came). At first, gunpowder was only really used for cannons and seige weapons. |
#18iltharanosSep 10, 2004 17:13:40 | That's why I said "eventually." |
