#1zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2004 11:50:53 | To celebrate the first anniversary of the rebirth of Dragonlance under the new D&D 3.5 rules, the Tobril team is proud to present the first Tobril special issue. And what better way to celebrate than to thrust your characters into a series of adventures highlighting the struggles of the Age of Mortals after the Queen of Darkness has perished, as the gods try to garner new followers to their faiths and mortals must once again decide their destiny. The adventure is aimed at a party of four 2nd-level characters allowing players to make use of some of the non-standard races in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting. If you make extensive use of miniatures you can also download the tactical maps for that extra bit of strategy. Head on over to our headquarters at http://www.tobrilmagazine.com for download links. Also on our website we announce the winner of last issue's Monster Design competition. We'll be publishing the winning entry plus a couple of runner-ups in future issues so stay peeled. The Dragonlance Tobril fan e-zine is currently accepting submissions for upcoming issues. If you would like to submit either a finished article or a proposal for Dragonlance-related gaming content, please contact our editors at tobril@tobrilmagazine.com. Submission guidelines can be found on our website at http://www.tobrilmagazine.com. The Tobril is a fan-based web magazine for the Dragonlance campaign setting. |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 11, 2004 1:01:26 | I'm a little surprised this hasn't been hyped a little more on the DragonLanceforums.com as well. I read the adventure today. Layout was overall pretty good - and the interior art was excellent! Not sure that I can use the adventure in current form for my existing campaign, but I'll be following it along. I won't say more about it so as not to ruin the plot for any players. The use of Dundjiini maps was appreciated. I'd suggest including the .dja as well as the .bmp in the .rar file. For those of us with Dundjiini, it makes it that much easier to modify for our own purposes. Overall, it's a nice start. We need more of this. Dungeon is not going to do it for us - and KoD is not enough to keep us going. A core group of people e-publishing community adventures is necessary, in my opinion, to keep this whole train rollin along... |

#4ferratusSep 13, 2004 19:15:27 | Hey, I like the map at the end. What program was used to make it? |
#5brimstoneSep 14, 2004 10:33:53 | I can't get the .RAR map file to open. Any suggestions? |
#6theredrobedwizardSep 14, 2004 10:37:32 | If you're having trouble opening the .RAR file itself, I recomend WinRAR. If you're having trouble opening what's inside the .RAR file, well... can't help... -TRRW |
#7cam_banksSep 14, 2004 10:40:56 | I can't get the .RAR map file to open. Any suggestions? I believe Stuffit Expander can handle .RAR files. WinZip might not, although I haven't had to try it. What application do you typically use to open archived files? Cheers, Cam |

Apparently nothing, for I've never dealt with .RAR files before. I'll try WinZip first...then those other two. Thanks. |
#9kipper_snifferdoo_02Sep 14, 2004 11:21:04 | Hey, I like the map at the end. What program was used to make it? It looks like the work of Dijinni to me. Link to Dijinni |
#10talinthasSep 14, 2004 13:08:10 | you've never dealt with rars before? /looks for brimstone's rock then again, i spend a great deal of time with my computer, and rars are the only compression anyone uses anymore. winzip won't cut it, and winrar is better by far anyway. it will handle all compression types. |
#11brimstoneSep 14, 2004 13:17:54 | you've never dealt with rars before? /shows Tal the rock...it says "Congress" on it Come on now...I work for a company owned by Boeing that works for the Federal Government, we don't exactly get the money to be "modern" over here. :D |
#12talinthasSep 14, 2004 13:24:51 | btw, happy birthday, bro =) |
#13brimstoneSep 14, 2004 13:33:18 | btw, happy birthday, bro =) Hey, thanks Tal! |
#14zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 15:04:55 | Thanks guys. And a big happy birthday to you Tobin! As for the rar. We went for it because zip was only compressing the maps to 6mb or something, and that is very large for most people. You need WinRar 2.9 or later. You can use WinRar to open (and create) .ZIPs and it has a similar UI to WinZip. IMHO, there's no reason to use WinZIP at all, if you have WinRar. You can download the latest version here: http://www.rarlabs.com and http://www.win-rar.com. Like Robert mentioned (and Sean but with mistaken spelling ;), the maps were indeed created with Dundjinni (http://www.dundjinni.com/). It's very simple to use but unfortunately it's JAVA-based making it excruciatingly slow at times (most of the times, even). Robert, thanks for the idea to release the Dundjinni source maps; we'll probably release them as a separate download though. |

Robert, thanks for the idea to release the Dundjinni source maps; we'll probably release them as a separate download though. Those maps are beautiful! Again...I've never heard of Dundjinni before. Don't get me wrong, I love CC2...but Dundjinni blows it away in the aesthetic propterties department. Very cool. |
