#1zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2004 13:59:35 | There used to be a really cool java applet somewhere online that would give you the weather in Greyhawk for a month based on you latitude and the '83 folio tables. Anyone know where this is anymore? |
#2cwslyclghSep 13, 2004 14:42:24 | I also would like to know. |
#3zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2004 14:45:52 | Not sure if this is the one you're thinking of, but it does have a Greyhawk generator (as well as Forgotten Realms, and "standard" earth). http://www.openroleplaying.org/tools/weather/ |
#4zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2004 16:08:16 | That isn't the one I was thinking of, but it seems pretty cool. The one I was thinking of lets you put in a latitude in order to adjust the temperatures instead of choosing a climate type. |
#5Gnarley_WoodsmanSep 14, 2004 0:03:03 | here is the link. The site is currently down.... Its a shame. Good Gaming |
#6zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2004 10:35:48 | Yeah thats the one. Hmmmm....I wonder if we could get it moved to Canonfire or something? Does the author still peruse these boards? |
#7zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2004 10:39:10 | Hmmmm....I wonder if we could get it moved to Canonfire or something? If I can be supplied w/ contact information for this person, I have no problem asking. |
#8joelat713_dupSep 21, 2004 23:08:26 | I did a search for the site on waybackmachine.org. His/her site had an email link. I don't know if it's still active. Here it is: myrpg@iki.fi I think it's Finnish. Hope this helps. Would love to see the program in use again. |
#9myrpgOct 17, 2004 3:46:00 | Hi You seem to be lucky today After a long time, I viewed these forums and saw this thread. I am the One behind that program. So, they have finally closed the site (it took over two years to do so after my departure from the Institute). Here is an excerpt of an email almost a year ago (a reply to greyhack@canonfire.com, 03.11.2003 [dd.mm.yyyy]): **** Hi I have been asked by Delglath (at the D&D Greyhawk messageboard)to send email to Issak and ask if the weather forecaster for Greyhawk (http: //edulinux.edu2.evitech.fi/weatherforecaster/) could be setup on one of your servers, so it wouldn't fade away from the greyhawk community. I am the one who made it, and have not been working for evitech (Institute where it currently resides) for almost two years. It still seems to be up and running, but I cannot guarantee for how long as I have no access to it anymore. Technically it consists of an XML controlled Java servlet, which is used through PHP GUI. It also collects simple use statistics and saves it into MYSQL database (this is not actually necessary). Luckily, I have all the sources and other files in secure place at my disposal. At your service -- Tomi 'myrpg' Suuronen, the mighty something. **** And of course, I did not hear of them everafter.... As the program have been found useful, I need to set up another site for it myself. Any comment is appreciated, but if you want to use email to contact me, remember to put the text "sääennustus ohjelma" on the subject field, so it would not be confused as a spam. A standalone version 1.02 of the program can be found: at site . Please read the README.txt file carefully. |
#10zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 12:23:59 | Thanks for replying Tomi, seems like this has been tried before then. I will definitely download the stand alone version but it would be cool to have it as an online resource too. How about it abysslin, any chance this can be set up on Canonfire? |
#11zombiegleemaxOct 19, 2004 9:07:35 | Technically it consists of an XML controlled Java servlet, which is used through PHP GUI. It also collects simple use statistics and saves it Should be feasible, and we'd ofcourse, love it to host it for you! How about it abysslin, any chance this can be set up on Canonfire? I don't see why not. I'll get together with Gary and we'll make sure it is technically feasible (which I'm almost 100% sure it is,) before we have Tomi send us anything. "sääennustus ohjelma" Okay. |
#12myrpgOct 20, 2004 0:48:33 | I am looking to hear from you then In the mean time I am fixing a newer 1.03 version of it. Only to make it work with a newer tomcat and package java stuff into a .war-file for an easier install. |
#13myrpgNov 04, 2004 1:58:43 | A new standalone version 1.03 of the program can be found: here How about the Canonfire issue? Any progress? |
#14zombiegleemaxNov 04, 2004 9:29:42 | I have pointed Gary to this thread and we think it 100% feasible. Apparently he hasn't emailed you or gone past that. I know he has been very busy lately though. Tonight is the Thursday night GreyTalk (chat). I'll remind him then. Should only be a matter of an email and be up in 5-10 minutes. Would you have any special requests? Specifically, how exactly would you prefer to be credited? |
#15myrpgNov 08, 2004 0:34:58 | Good news! It is back online You can find it at: Greyhawk, Weather Forecaster It also contains a link to the standalone version. Have fun with it. It would also be rather nice if you could put a link to the www.canonfire.com, so people could find it much easier. |
#16zombiegleemaxNov 08, 2004 14:49:13 | Very cool, thanks for getting it back up. |
#17chatdemonNov 16, 2004 17:46:52 | Here is an excerpt of an email almost a year ago (a reply to greyhack@canonfire.com, 03.11.2003 [dd.mm.yyyy]): Well, greyhack@canonfire is me, well was, i dont have that email anymore. For the record, I forwarded that email to Gary Holian, since I don't, and never have, had access to the actual php coding on the site that would be required. If he dropped the ball on it, I apologize, but as Abysslin pointed out, he gets busy now and then. |
#18GreysonNov 16, 2004 20:58:48 | I too, can host this utility, immediately. I can give it a permanent place to reside without fee to the owner or users. While I support the effort to get it at Canonfire, and I think it must be posted there, perhaps another permanent location is appropriate for redundancy. Just a thought. |
#19zombiegleemaxNov 17, 2004 9:24:22 | We had requested the .war file some weeks back, so hopefully it will be up on Canonfire soon ;) |
