I know Darksun had several types of mounts dedicated to the setting but I don't remember reading about specific mounts in the PS setting. Well there was a FR article called Destiers of the Planes that was in a old 2e issue of Dragon. |
#3factol_rhys_dupSep 13, 2004 20:50:19 | Although there are some interesting mounts shown in pictures from Planescape, planewalkers rarely go through the trouble, since it's tough for anything big enough to carry you to fit through a doorway-sized portal. |
#4zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2004 21:16:51 | Off the top of my head, I recall Nightmares, Howlers and Arcadian poneys. Surely there are more though. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 1:30:50 | Already mentioned: Arcadian ponies, from In the Cage: A Guide to Sigil. Howlers, from the Planes of Chaos Monstrous Supplement. Nightmares, from the Planescape MC Appendix 1. Other mount-suitable monsters: Buraqs, from the Planes of Conflict Monstrous Supplement. nic'Eponas, from the Planescape Boxed Set Monstrous Supplement. Slasraths, from the Planes of Conflict Monstrous Supplement. |
#6zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 1:33:56 | There are the nic'Epona (Planescape Monstrous Supplement, renamed Ur'Epona in the recent Planar Handbook) and the various equar (trothspire, gildmane, favonian, lithitchil, menthric, potherrounce, banecourser, rosinante, charnalbalk) from an old Dragon article ("Destriers of the Planes", Dra#243). The Slasrath has been converted in the new Fiend Folio. |

#8zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 8:12:45 | O.o.... Who in their right mind would want to ride a howler!?! |
#9elonarcSep 14, 2004 8:47:21 | Bladelings? |
#10zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 11:50:59 | The best mounts would probably be magical ones, such as figurines of wonderous power types, since you can summon/release them. |
#11ripvanwormerSep 14, 2004 17:39:54 | Tony DiTerlizzi drew some strange, skull-faced, almost humanoid creatures in the Planescape boxed set being ridden by armored warriors, possibly Mercykillers. It was never clear what they were. Howlers are often used as beasts of burden in Pandemonium. They are all barmies there. Golems and other constructs might make interesting mounts. In Sigil most travel by sedan chair, or they walk. There are also Arcadian ponies, and the Mimir mentions Cager ponies crossbred from them and certain fiendish steeds. Githyanki ride nightmares and red dragons. |
#12zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2004 17:47:11 | I just thought...a cool mount would be a unicorn skeleton. |
#13bob_the_efreetSep 14, 2004 22:34:11 | I think a lot of planewalkers just, you know, walk. It seems like mounts might be for the slightly more stably living people (the sort who just need a horse to head over to the next town to get their ale) rather than people who cavort across the planes in search of adventure. |
