FYI, TRRW's Legion Mage has been posted on the Nexus.

Thanks to our favorite Red Robed Wizard for his hard work on the Legion prestige classes. I really appreciate it.

Enjoy!

There are a few things I dont like about the PrC, although its overall design is quite balanced:

The "special requirement" of the arcane focus class feature is unfair compairing the Legion Mage with every other LoS PrC.

Because, every spellcasting member of the LoS is inherently penalized by having to take at least 1 level of "Steel Legionnaire" PrC.

Allowing arcane focus as a prerequisite just means, a Legion Mage does not have to make the same sacrifice as every other Legion Spellcaster (be it Legion Mystic oder Legion Sorc).

If I am to allow this PrC I would disallow this requirement - changing it to only "must possess the legion knowledge class ability".

The second thing about the class that - at least for me - seems strange is, that Wizards of High Sorcery are allowed to join the ranks of the LoS.

This would place them in the same organization as many (renegade) sorcerers (even working in tandem with them).
But this does seem somehow ok, since there are solamnic auxilliary mages, fulfilling the same role in another knightly order.
It will make for interesting roleplaying opportunities.....

Second, besides being sorcerers in the LoS, there, too, will be renegade wizards that never have taken the Test of HS.
If I were to be a WoHS in the ranks of the LoS, I would get quite mad of all the "violations" of High Sorcery rules....

Still, nice PrC class, but certainly not for everyone.

Well, I personally don't think that a level of Steel Legionnaire "penalizes" anyone.

Beyond that, the Arcane Focus OR Legion Knowledge choice was implemented because Wizards would be unable to join the Legion Mages until after the War of Souls. As their primary alliegence is to magic, they'd probably return to the Towers of High Sorcery first, completing their test before rejoining their Legion buddies.

The second thing about the class that - at least for me - seems strange is, that Wizards of High Sorcery are allowed to join the ranks of the LoS.

This would place them in the same organization as many (renegade) sorcerers (even working in tandem with them).

In the thread where the Legion Mage was being created, I posted that some LegMags would be renegades due to their close association with Primal Sorcerers. Not all would be renegades, however, because as White Robes they would seek to convert the Socerers to High Sorcery.

In fact, I'd think the Towers would *want* their Wizards to join up (at least temporarily) with the Legion of Steel, just to try to recruit a bunch of powerful Sorcerers to change their ways to that of Wizardry.

It's a veritable smorgasboard of potential superdiviners just itching for ways to further their ability to work magic to their will.

Still, nice PrC class, but certainly not for everyone.

Most PrCs aren't for everyone, silly :P.

Any other comments, observations, or questions?

p.s.: Look for my next effort, the Dragonarmy Veteran, in under a week; perfect for all those War of the Lance and Chaos War era campaigns.
