the FLGS I work at recently took in a LOT fo 2nd edition stuff (mostly complete book ofs...), including two planescape items:

Planescape Campaign Setting
Hellbound: The Blood War

My ebay research says that at the moment, we could expect $35 for the CS, and $60 for blood war, which I'm just going to pay directly to my boss so I can have em...since Idont have either im not missing this chance in any case! Condition is near mint...the boxes themselves are...worn, but not beaten ro breaking apart.

It's a deal I'd say. I've seen the Hellbound box break $100 regularly depending on condition. (Which sadly I did, getting into a bidding war with one of my own players, unbeknownst to either of us, over the box when he was going to get it for me for my own birthday. It's like an O'Henry story...)

'Gift of the Magi' yep

Wife sold her hair to buy a silver watch chain for her husband. The husband sold his watch to buy combs for his wife. Bittersweet.

Didn't Ernie and Bert retell that one?

What was the one about the couple that spends years trying to recover from debts incurred when they had to replace a necklace that the wife borrowed and lost, only to find out that it wasn't real pearls the whole time?

Anyway, good purchases. Now, just get the rest.

It was indeed "the Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant. A classic little short story with a wonderfully ironic twist ending.

You can read it on line here:

Shemmy, your tale of the Hellbound boxset is a good one. You should write it up as a short story and post it.

You could call it the "The Gift of the Yugi." O'Henry was from my home town of Austin, by the way. :D
