Years ago I came upon a description of african vegetal fortification and thought right away about the wall surrounding Gulg. But the Mopti Wall is described as a miles-long, 20' high and 20' thick wall of brambleweed in City-State of Gulg and as a miles-long wall of mopti (thorn tree) in Veiled Alliance.

On the officials maps of the city, I have always found it to be a straight wall like one of stone while around real african villages the wall was more organic looking with multiple concentric hedgerows consisting of various thorny plants which compeled assailant to go from one side to the other at the mercy of the defender on the other side of the wall.
One exemple of fortification is that first came essences of plants difficult to set afire or that were toxic when cut, then various type of thorny plants growing together and finally a hermetic wall of plants as the last row.

I don't know if real african defensive system where the basis for the wall around Gulg, but i'd like to know your opinion about it and the apparence of the Mopti wall.

The Mopti wall is based on a real african fortification which cattle hearders (mostly the Masai) use to keep their cattle safe a night. What they do is they cut down all these brambles (I forget the exact name of the plant) and arrange them in a large circle with most of the thorns pointing outwards. The point is to keep lions and other large predators out.

The appearance is sort of like a big jumble of brambles so thick a halfling's fist would have trouble passing through uncut.

The movie with V. Kilmer and M. Douglas, The Ghost and the Darkness has a pretty good example of it (except it doesn't help them much in the flick).
