#1wyldwabytOct 01, 2004 8:33:51 | I just picked up the Dragonlance d20 books. Havent played in this edition in Dragonlance but I am a long time fan. I had a beef and was wondering if anyone else had also a problem with the Knights of the Lily getting sneak attack as a class ablility? Maybe after the war of chaos as the knighthood lost its leadership and such, but from the start it just didnt fit far as I could see. Anywho I was just wanting to know if anyone else had thoughts on this, and maybe a nice alternate ability they have slipped in as an alternate. |

This could refelct a battle tactic - when engaged with enemy footmen, try to break off and isolate (read: flank) individuals and small groups and destroy them piecemeal, rather than simply push forward against the enemy force as a whole. |

I think you're getting hung up on the semantics of the ability's name. You could call it the 'Evil Strike', Saltine Slash', or the 'Dark Attack of Death' - it doesn't matter what the name of the ability is. The core of the ability is that it allows a character to take advantage of weaknesses in someone's defense and hit them harder for it. Taking advantage of someone's weakness is not dishonorable. It's how you survive combat. It could just as easily have been a class feature of the Knights of Solamnia if their focus wasn't better drawn elsewhere. It also balances the Knights of the Lily against the Solamnic bretheren. |

I think it might have been given to them in order to demonstrate how well they work together as a team. Remember the first generation of Knights of the Dark Queen all lived and worked with each other since they were children. :D |

Rather that the way they justify the ability is by saying the knights like to sneak up and get the drop on their enemy. This is not what the first generation KoT were like. Also I feel sneak attack is an extremly powerful ability. Handing it out to so many classes (which seems to happen often not just in Dragonlance) isnt overly good. How someone mentioned how the knights were raised and fought together from birth does garner a reason for an ability. But sneak attack just does not fit. I was thinking that a Knight of the lily could maybe use the Thunder Twin (think thats the name, but its a dwarven feat from forgotten realms) slightly modified when fighting with a fellow knight of the lily. Or something along those lines that boost a normal flank bonus. |

The DLCS isn't dealing with the first generation of Dark Nights. They're the Post-War of Souls Dark Knights, the Dark Knights who have been corrupted completely since the Gods left and are a tattered wreck of what they once were. One of the themes in Dragonlance is that evil turns in upon itself. Lo and behold, the Dark Knights did exactly that, becoming little more than a cut-throat band of mercenaries for hire and extortionists in plate armor. |
#8zombiegleemaxOct 01, 2004 13:56:24 | I have the same question ask for long time ago. And Dragonhelm answer me. Ok - its more a realy quesiton to Sneak Atack as self for knights as for the Skill. What is when the party see at first enemy in some distance and will fight against they? But all will go to the under brush and make sneak attack. Is it honorable for the knight or must ho go direct to the enemy that they can see him from long distance? Hiding behind bushes, then doing a sneak attack from behind is generally not honorable. Surprise maneuvers on the battlefield would be allowed, though. Is it allowed to make a ambush for enemys? I think that depends on how one goes about it. Placing a tiger trap in the middle of the road is generally not honorable. Having your pet dragon hiding behind the hill behind you then coming in for the kill would probably be honorable, from the perspective of the Knights of Neraka. The Points to handle Sneak Atack for Knights are written in DLCS.Thx that i have now my own Threat. |
