WotL for AoM Query

Hi

I'm pretty sure I'm only going to be running an AoM campaign now and in the future - I doubt I will ever run a War of the Lance campaign again. However, I'd like to support SP and I'm a 'must buy everything DL' kinda guy, so what I'd like to know is what in the WotL sourcebook can be used for an AoM campaign?

Sorry if this has been raised in a thread already - if it has, just point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Well, pretty much all the game data can work, even the spell-less Knights of Solamnia, as some of the Knights could have refused to cast spells without Paladine granting them (while showing reverence to KJ though). All the PrCs would work, to my knowledge. The stuff that starts getting kinda without worth in AoM is all of the characters statted out, and a lot of the geographical data. I don't know how useful it will be, I guess. I suppose I will have to wait and look at it when it comes into the hobby store here.

One thing I will stress about War of the Lance is that it has some of the essentials of Dragonlance in it, such as a gnomish tinker prestige class and the handler prestige class.

Some of the themes of the War of the Lance also apply to a post-WoS world. There's tons of magic items, as well as geographical info. While the latter may be a bit out of date for the AoM campaign, it would help to fill in some gaps.

I can honestly say that it is simply the best Dragonlance RPG book ever.

Simon,

Here's a few useful things from the top of my head...

Classes: The Master. This is a new base class that covers a lot of ground and is completely era-independent. The prestige classes, with the exception of the Dragon Highlord, are all useful for any campaign (especially the kender handler and the minotaur marauder). The feats add a sprinkling of useful material as well.

The magic chapter is chock-full of spells and magic items that can be just as useful in later eras. The geography information, while specific to the Age of Despair, has lots of details that can be mentally updated past the Chaos War.

I could easily see making a few changes to update Tracy Hickman's "The Lyceum" to the Age of Mortals.

I'm sure others have thoughts on this as well. Enjoy!

and beyond that, all of the geographical information can be easily updated with a little work. it's well worth it.

Especially now that the Overlords' damage is slowly receding, the world is going back to being pretty close to what it was in the 4th Age anyway.

I completely forgot about magic items and spells. There needs to be a new wielder of a few of those items, namely the Brightblade. While it would be kinda defiling the grave of Steel Brightblade, isn't there still some Brightblades out there that could be putting the sword to good use? Practically none of the spells are era specific, which is always a good thing.

Now, I know this is off-topic, but what exactly can the Gnomish Tinker do? Can they create little gadgets and such? Are there small amounts of invention rules included, or do we have to wait until the Races book?

Except for the Desolation. But even Qulinesti and the Northern Wastes are "slowly" reverting back. How long will it take for it to happen? Who knows. But the Desolation is stubbornly unchanged.

But, the cities and sites will still be there (with maybe a few updates to ruins and such). Still no fold out map...but the maps that are in there are much more detailed than the DLCS maps...in that there are more cities, ruins, vilages, etc. on there.
