#1inkubusOct 14, 2004 12:04:45 | Hi guys Me and my group have been playing in our Dragonlance campaign for almost 5 years now. We started some time after the War of the Lance (with lots of selfmade adventure stuff plus DLE1-3 and DLA1-3) and by now we're only a couple of weeks (in-game time) from the events in Dragons of Summer Flame. The DM plans to skip basically all the time from after the defeat of Chaos until the war of souls and he is planning to have us timehop to the return of the gods. I'm sort of the Vice DM and responsible for some of the story and most of the DL background. First questions: Any suggestions how this skip could be achieved in a credible way? I've read about the time moving faster on certain planes so would it be possible to put them onto one of those planes were they'd e.g. spend a year and when they manage to return to Krynn the whole time until the War of Souls has passed? Or how about this: The gods took some of their chosen followers with them when they left, put them into some kind of hibernation and brought them back with them when they found Krynn again? Second question: We were also wondering: Are there any good/ metallic (minor) dragonlords. Obviously the dragon overlords are/ were all chromatic ones and the ones in the "Minor Dragon Overlords of the 5th Age" are all chromatic, too. So, any metallic ones out there or not? Thanks in advance, Cheers, Inkubus |
#2iltharanosOct 14, 2004 12:14:04 | Hi guys Heya. First questions: Any suggestions how this skip could be achieved in a credible way? I've read about the time moving faster on certain planes so would it be possible to put them onto one of those planes were they'd e.g. spend a year and when they manage to return to Krynn the whole time until the War of Souls has passed? There is the Gray (a.k.a. Ethereal Sea or Ethereal Plane depending on whom you ask) where time is oddly distorted. It worked the opposite way for Skie (centuries pass for him in the Gray but only a few years on Krynn), but since we don't know the planar properties of the Gray, you could easily switch the time effects around. Or how about this: The gods took some of their chosen followers with them when they left, put them into some kind of hibernation and brought them back with them when they found Krynn again? That sounds good. Maybe you could even do it ala Waylorn Wyvernsbane and have them locked up in magical stasis in some out of the way Tower. Another idea is that the PCs all get turned to stone (by a medusa, basilisk, evil spellcaster, etc.). As stone, they don't age ... so the PCs end up as statuary in the home of the one that turned them to stone (the BBEG)... until decades later a band of adventurers discovers them and kills the BBEG and frees the PCs from their stony prisons and they discover themselves in a strange new time. There was one metallic dragonlord, a brass named Iyesta. |
#3inkubusOct 14, 2004 12:29:22 | Hi againHeya. That would work, too. Nice idea actually. I'll pass it on to my friend. Any other ideas? It's not a problem if (powerful) magic is involved. After all, the PCs are level 13 by now and close to level 14 already. And they're fighting some pretty powerful renegade wizards at the moment. There was one metallic dragonlord, a brass named Iyesta. What do you mean "were"? Does that mean he died? Does anybody know where I can find further information about him? So, in principle, metallic overlords do exist, right? I wonder why all the overlords were chromatic then? And why hardly anything is mentioned about metallic minor dragon overlords... Thanks, Inkubus |
#4zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2004 12:35:25 | Iyesta or Slendor was the only metallic Dragonlord and has died. The Dragon Overlords were all chromatic and now there is only 1 left, Gellidus in southern Ergoth |
#5iltharanosOct 14, 2004 12:46:49 | That would work, too. Nice idea actually. I'll pass it on to my friend. You could kill the PCs. Seriously. You can even describe their deaths in excruciating detail, just to torture them. Then describe to them how everything fades to black ... Before they can go crazy and physically assault you, you can then start with: "You awaken ... in a tomb, all of you appear to be quite alive. The otherwise stygian darkness is pierced only by the still-fresh corpse of some humanoid clutching a mysterious glowing medallion ..." So, not only are the PCs decades into the future, they've got a mystery to kick-start them off. If they died, who brought them back? If they were killed by their enemies, why are they waking up in a tomb? Who's the charred skeleton? What's with the glowing medallion? What happened to the enemy (enemies) that killed them? Is it all related? What do you mean "were"? Does that mean he died? Does anybody know where I can find further information about him? The brass dragonlord Iyesta (female) and her domain feature in the novel City of the Lost. She's appeared in some older gaming products, notably the Dragonlance: Fifth Age boxed set. So, in principle, metallic overlords do exist, right? I wonder why all the overlords were chromatic then? And why hardly anything is mentioned about metallic minor dragon overlords... Becoming an overlord required the slaying of dozens of different wyrms of each kind (metallic and chromatic), so very few good dragons were likely to engage in the slaughter of their own kin, and hence become overlords. Being a dragonlord wasn't nearly so bad, though it did mean slaughtering numerous enemy dragons. Thanks, No prob. EDIT: Oh well, I was trying not to spoil things for you, but it looks like DR beat me to the punch. |

I actually used this in a Dark Sun campaign but maybe you could use it for DL. You could have the PCs blown foward in time due to some gnomish invention from Mt Nevermind. You could let on that some baddie (maybe a KoN?) catches wind that the gnomes are trying to create a device that allows them to travel back in time. The villian wishes to use the device to change Krynn's past (Aid the Dragon Armies with his knowledge of the future to win the WotL?). The PCs discover Mr. Evil's plans and move to thrawt him. At a pivotal moment the Bad Guy straps himself info the device only to have the PC's burst in to stop him. The PC will no doubt try to destroy the "device of time transference" (and believe me. they will!) which in turn blows them to the 5th Age! Just my 2 Steel. |
