#1zombiegleemaxOct 17, 2004 11:53:55 | If you were to choose a set of dice to be the iconic Dragonlance gaming dice, what would they be? Here's a site with some nice dice: http://www.crystalcaste.com/ |
#2zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 7:58:52 | If you were to choose a set of dice to be the iconic Dragonlance gaming dice, what would they be? Crystal Caste is one of my favorite dice manufacturers! Though I'm partial to the traditional polyhedrals (as opposed to their alternate-geometry dice), Crystal Caste has amazing quality. Their Dwarven Forge line of stone dice is also really cool, and their high-end specialty dice (dinosaur fossils, meteorites, etc.) are beyond belief! Jamie Chambers Sovereign Press, Inc. |
#3brimstoneOct 18, 2004 9:40:13 | $100 for a d20!?! What are they smoking? I mean...surely that's not made from a real meteorite... |
#4cam_banksOct 18, 2004 9:43:55 | $100 for a d20!?! What are they smoking? Of course it is! I like the kryptonite dice, myself. Keeps my buddy Clark from using his powers to cheat. Oh, hang on, that's the other Clark. Damn. Cheers, Cam |
#5zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 9:44:49 | For Dragonlance, I'd have to go with the steel. Seems fitting. |
#6zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 9:55:00 | $100 for a d20!?! What are they smoking? The specialty dice (fossils, meteorites) are made of exactly that. You not only get the die, but you get a certificate of authenticity that tells you where your fossil/meteorite was found and by whom. I don't have one myself, but I have held them in my hand and they are cool! To me the dino-dice are wild, to know that I'm holding what was once a living, breathing dinosaur! Of course to know that your d20 came from outer space is pretty cool, too. Jamie Chambers Sovereign Press, Inc. |
#7brimstoneOct 18, 2004 9:56:44 | The specialty dice (fossils, meteorites) are made of exactly that. Wow...I don't know if I think that's cool or lament the loss to science... Yeah, I'm that nerdy. :D |
#8zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 10:10:40 | I have to agree with Brim's first comment; $100 for some dice is just strange. The metal dice are hot though. ~~~ |
#9brimstoneOct 18, 2004 10:15:23 | I have to agree with Brim's first comment; $100 for some dice is just strange. The metal dice are hot though. Not "some" dice...only one. It's $100 for 1d20 that that's it. Still...given that they're real, I can see why there's the price tag... |
#10zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 10:17:05 | Not "some" dice...only one. It's $100 for 1d20 that that's it. One twenty sider for $100 ? For that price it better always roll 20's as well as influence(Through some inherent power it has.) other d20's that my players are using to roll 20's as well. Do they really expect to make any money on that thing ? ~~~ |
#11zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 10:19:37 | One twenty sider for $100 ? Do they really expect to make alot of money on that thing ? They actually only have limited numbers of each, and when they're sold--that 's it! These are designed for collectors, not casual game players. The Dwarven Forge stone dice are very cool. I got my first set when the line was brand-new, and the feel and sound of stone dice is quite different! Jamie Chambers Sovereign Press, Inc. |
#12zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 10:21:10 | LoL, collector my behind! For $100 it better get up and go to work for me in the morning. ~~~ |
#13brimstoneOct 18, 2004 10:22:46 | Do they really expect to make any money on that thing ? Did you miss the part about them actually being made out of meteorite or fossile? I wonder how they get their hands on those things... Anyway, like Jamie said...if I ever had one of those...don't think for a second that I would ever actually use that thing. |
#14zombiegleemaxOct 18, 2004 10:28:26 | Did you miss the part about them actually being made out of meteorite or fossile? Maybe they don't get their hands on them actually(Meteorite or fossil), maybe they just tell you that they are made of that so they can charge the unsuspecting sap $100 for a single d20 ? ~~~ |
#15cam_banksOct 18, 2004 10:29:34 | I pick up Chessex dice from the FLGS based purely on the pretty colors. Cheers, Cam |
#16clarkvalentineOct 18, 2004 10:50:38 | I like the kryptonite dice, myself. Keeps my buddy Clark from using his powers to cheat. Oh, hang on, that's the other Clark. Damn. What's all this then? |
#17brimstoneOct 18, 2004 10:54:55 | What's all this then? Yeah...I think the Clark he was looking for begins with the letter "K." |
#18cam_banksOct 18, 2004 10:59:07 | Yeah...I think the Clark he was looking for begins with the letter "K." I get all of my superhero friends mixed up. One thing I was just thinking about is that metal and/or stone dice would certainly be cause for using a box to roll them in, or something. Otherwise, the kitchen table would get pretty scuffed up. And of course, we all game at the kitchen table. Right? Cheers, Cam |
#19clarkvalentineOct 18, 2004 11:02:48 | And of course, we all game at the kitchen table. Right? Well we could game at a table suspended over the firey pit of hell, just for some ambiance. But as the only table we have available for that sort of duty is currently in the kitchen, we'd still - technically - be gaming at the kitchen table. |
#20daedavias_dupOct 18, 2004 11:27:16 | I pick up Chessex dice from the FLGS based purely on the pretty colors. I am afraid that I do this as well. One of my players uses pewter dice that he picked up at the Minnesota Renaissance festival. Can't go wrong with solid metal rolling across the table. I think I am going to get a set of stone dice though. |
#21talinthasOct 18, 2004 12:41:29 | i got my archeologist/gamer buddy a d20 made from a fossil. It was worth it just to see the glow on his face =) personally though, i want the dice made out of copper... |

Except when you have a brand new oak table and some idiot busts out his sharp-edged metal dice and puts scratches and pock marks all in it!! :headexplo. Sorry about that, but it just happened a few months ago and it still galls me. |

Sorry about that, but it just happened a few months ago and it still galls me. Well, his have round edges, and we play on his house, so it wasn't a huge problem. We generally use a large wooden mat that sits on the floor when we play at my house, so it wouldn't be that bad of a problem here either. |
#25zombiegleemaxOct 19, 2004 16:35:04 | Weird kind of double posting due to internet problems... |
#26darthsylverOct 20, 2004 9:20:18 | When we play at my house I have a large plastic gaming table for the players and I roll my dice on my desk in the office. Even then I have a cardboard box and a few cookie sheets I have the players roll their dice in so they wont damge the table or the dice. |
