#1brimstoneOct 25, 2004 13:27:10 | Okay, quick question. How would you all handle the Taer/Yeti from Dragonlance? I was thinking that the Saqualaminoi from the BoK could work well, just give it the Special Attack, stench. If one did this...would the CR go from 4 to 5...or would it remain the same (as stench isn't all that powerful...as a compromise, lower the Intelligence by 2 maybe?) The second part of this question is...where did the saqualiminoi first appear? From the name, it sounds Taladian. Also, where did the taer/yeti first appear? (it wasn't SAGA was it?) |

The saqualaminoi have pretty much replaced the taer in Dragonlance. The taer is an established D&D monster (from as far back as Monster Manual II in 1st edition, and a few 1st edition modules), and the yeti was in 1st edition too. They were different monsters. Neither is part of the open content of core D&D, now, so rather than borrow the taer back from the Forgotten Realms I took the saqualaminoi from Taladas and expanded them to include Ansalon. Cool, thanks Cam! Hey...if I wanted to add stench to their repertoire...what would you say that does to the CR? |
#4cam_banksOct 25, 2004 14:27:55 | Cool, thanks Cam! Saqualaminoi are presently CR 4. Compare them to a CR 5 creature - if adding a stench ability to them would seem to make them about equal with a CR 5 creature, then elevate them to that. Otherwise, it might not be enough to shift them up by one. It would, however, increase their level adjustment to +3. Cheers, Cam |

(it wasn't SAGA was it?) The Saqualiminoi first appeared in the 'Time of the Dragon' boxed set. The taer/yeti first appeared in the original modules, I believe. They were later covered in much more detail in the Bestiary (Saga edition). |
