Ummm... I'm not too sure I should be posting this here. I have some questions about a Second Edition Product. What are the Tallis(sp?) cards that came with the Tales of the Lance boxed set? I also heard that the "Player's Guide to Dragonlance" was basically the Tales of the Lance boxed set info. with all the rules removed. I actually enjoy collecting some 2nd edition stuff, so if I could get info on this, it would be great. Thanks.

The BOX, contained everything that you needed to play Dragonlance, with 2nd Edition rules.
- Tales of the Lance book contained all the rules (imagine new Dragonlance Corebook and War of the Lance book together). It was actually excellent book full of information (some not even published again).
- Then we had Ansalon Trail Map, THE BEST MAP EVER. Otherside that map was more detailed map about Solace and it's surroundings (middle of Abanassinia) in Hex. Lets call this the GAMEMAP. It contained also battleground.
- There were also few other maps, detailing various locations (like High Clerist Tower).
- THEN there was other book, which had the cards. Cards detailing heroes and villains that you can play in that GAMEMAP. There were also small Taliscards or something. They were kind of random encounter cards for this more "simple" came.

--> Adventuring happened in that GAMEMAP and battles in that maps battleground. There were cardboard markers to characters and enemies.

This game was something between normal RPG and tabletop game...

The cards were very simple looking and small. Nothing special, like cool SAGA deck.

The Talis deck is actually a reproduction of that same deck from the module DL12 Dragons of Faith, where it's used as a fortune-telling, game playing, and (I believe) an adventure design device a la the famous scene in I6 Ravenloft.

Tales of the Lance gets a bad rap among many hardcore fans, but if you've got a strong sense of what's 'true' in your Krynn, it can be a great resource for details, alternative possibilities, and imagination seeds. (I get the impression--though I have no proof of this--that much of the background information comes from dumping together nearly everything created during the original DL design phase.)

That reminds me, I need to look where TotL stands on the Duelling Philosophies of Krynn . . . :-)

Ok. I think I have a better idea of what is in the product. I guess I still have a question on some of the world information. I know the set comes with a "World Book of Ansalon" and I heard the "Player's Guide to the Dragonlance Campaign" was essentially the same thing. If anyone has both of the products and can tell me the main differences between the two, I would greatly appreciate it. I also already have the "Player's Guide to the DL campaign" if that helps.

Thanks

the players guide is the world book without the rules, and with a short story thing added in. I actually liked the short story =)

But yeah, they're pretty much identical in terms of 'fluff' material.

The Player's Guide is a great way to introduce new players to the world of DL, serves as a great reference tool for players, and doesn't "spill the beans" too much.

I give it to all my new players to get them up to speed quickly.
