So it occured to me today, what with the dragons and avignions being the most powerfull beings on Athas, that maybe they should get something akin to salient divine powers. For instance, I thought the text on Divine Radiance from the Dieties and Demigods book suited an avignion very well.

What do you think? Near-divine powers for those who go real far? Not that they would be from a divine source necissarily, but still, seems to me that they could fit.

First: avignion = avangion
Second: Make a Search of the DS boards for "divine rank" and "salient".

Personally, I think it's a step too far. The Sorcerer-Kings are able to provide spells to their Templars (and no other dragons & avangions can do this) due to a fluke as a result of what Borys had done to initiate the Dragon metamorphosis in them, and is tied to their being Champions of Rajaat. And even with them, I'd not want to give Divine Ranks/Salient divine abilities, because those imply a deity, and Athas is completely devoid of deities. Now, I had borrowed some ideas from that book, to help define what I felt was the Champion of Rajaat and Sorcerer-King templates, but they don't have actualsalient divine abilities or divine ranks.

If ther are any Advanced Beings I'd figure could naturally grant divine spells, it would be the Divine-based ones: Spirits of the Land & Cleric-Elementals.

And if *anyone* deserves Divine Ranks and Salient Divine abilities, I'd think Rajaat would. But none of the Dragons & Avangions would get it.

I agree with Xlor on not giving divine salient abilities to the SK's - or other advanced beings.

Where we differ is on divine rank, i think a divine rank of 0 (which doesn't actually mean they are divine) is entirely suitible for such immortal beings.

Xlor and i (and others) have debated over this point a few times - so we might let dead kanks lie.... It's been hashed over a few times.... Maybe write up a slightly watered-down version of the abilities mentioned, re-cast as epic feats, and see what the community thinks? or write up a uniuqe spell-like or supernatural ability you think could fit the trappings.

BTW, Singapore is... humid
