So I've decided to ditch Eberron after a one-time game of Call of Cthulhu (we played a scenario I cooked up: a reality tv show, Cthulhu style! lots of fun), and my group will be doing Dark Sun. Yay, excitement.

Anyway, I'm starting everyone out with a modified Freedom adventure, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions in general for it?

Depends on your character composition.

Do not miss the 3.5 conversion of all the Freedom NPCs found here in the "NPCs" section.

be ruthless with your PC cause they will want to escape. If they plan to, make there plan discovered by the guard and whip them to near death a couple of time.

I know I repeat myself, but make a Search of the forum for "Freedom" and you'll find your question has been answered before with, IIRC, pretty imaginative - and useful - answers.

Choose ahead of time one PC who will be granted every favor, every benefit of luck, every useful item. Then, 2/3 of the way through the adventure, stab that character in the back and kill him.

I've tried to run Freedom two times. Both party was wiped out. I was not cruel, simply followed the rules lined in the module.

And a weak point is when they could get out from the slave pens for a courier job in the city. Why would they go back to the pens than? This I could never understand.

Because the VA needed someone on the inside. The pc's only reason to return would be to be the "good guys". This also gives preserver PCs an opportunity to get in good with the Tyr alliance.

If they don't take the bait, you just skip ahead to the arena scene and usher the PC's inside, using a little force if necessary.

This "good guys" thing works in every other world, but not in Dark Sun. And even a preserver thinks twice to go back into the slave pits for the good relationship with the VA. Then says no. Good relationship worths nothing if you are dead.

The slave pits are a death trap, plain and simple. The first party I DMed through Freedom simply died dehydrating in the pits, according to the rules in the module. No sane being would go back there for any promised reward.

The simple, elegent, Athasian solution: magical (or psionic) compulsion. Fixes that problem right up. For the VA, not the soon-to-be-slave-again. But that's their problem.
