#1zombiegleemaxNov 14, 2004 23:15:35 | I really, really need to get a map of the City of Greyhawk. I checked Maldin's site - great start, but zero detail on what's actually in the buildings. Is there any where I can get the detail to flesh out Maldin's info? |
#2MortepierreNov 15, 2004 0:33:09 | Maldin's map is based on the City of Greyhawk boxed set (1989) which, alas, isn't available for free on the net and hasn't yet (I think..) be turned into a .pdf for sale. So, the answer is: no. That said, you could inspire yourself from Greyhawk City's description in the Gord novels. It's different but there are enough common names to allow you to work something out. Better that than nothing, eh? Gord description |

#4zombiegleemaxNov 15, 2004 5:56:52 | I really, really need to get a map of the City of Greyhawk. I checked Maldin's site - great start, but zero detail on what's actually in the buildings. Is there any where I can get the detail to flesh out Maldin's info? Living Greyhawk Journal #2 not only has a terrific map of the city (much, much better than that found in the Boxed set) but also begins to detail the actual buildings and inhabitants. Over on the Harvestersheroes site I'm going to be restarting a City of Greyhawk project that I've been procrastinating on for a long while. I've made a note of all the references to street names, shops, temples, guilds, etc... that are mentioned as being in the city. The Gygax novel 'Night arrant' is filled with street names and inns from one of the short stories. Rather than develop the city street by street though, I feel it works better to create shops and characters that can be dropped in as needed. My players have always hads an instinctual ability to choose the path that I have not detailed. |
#5omoteNov 15, 2004 8:52:31 | My players have always hads an instinctual ability to choose the path that I have not detailed. So true. The Living Greyhawk Journal #2 is an excellent resource for a map of the city (in fact, the map is the best part of the issue). http://www.paizo.com/dungeon/products/issues/livingGreyhawkJournal/v5748btpy73a8 This is a link to the PAIZO store that had LGJ#2 in stock not more then a month ago. Right now they appear to be out. I wonder if they will restock. If not, I'm sure you can find one on eBay. I still reccomend the City of Greyhawk Box set for the best source of info. .........................Omote FPQ |
#6erik_monaNov 15, 2004 12:25:19 | Living Greyhawk Journal #2 is now completely sold out. The entire print run is in the hands of readers, now, so your best bet (unfortunately) is eBay. --Erik Mona Editor of Said Magazine |
#7Brom_BlackforgeNov 15, 2004 12:46:24 | FYI: LGJ #2 has the poster map and details on a number of locations, but only in a limited area (Artisans' Quarter, IIRC, and maybe another). A couple of other LGJs (3 & 4, I think) had descriptions of some Clerkburg locations. Paizo might still have some of those. Personally, I'd recommend trying to track down "The Adventure Begins." |
#8zombiegleemaxNov 15, 2004 13:37:01 | Here's a decent map http://www.jimland.org/roh/greyhawkmap.html |
#9gv_dammerungNov 15, 2004 14:29:00 | Here's a decent map This is the map, I believe, that was included with LGJ 2. GVD |
#10omoteNov 15, 2004 20:41:06 | That is indeed the map from LGJ #2. A great map, and a great link too. Thanks. ..............................Omote FPQ |
#11zombiegleemaxNov 15, 2004 22:50:18 | Thanks for the feedback, but there's something dissatisifying about having to sit and watch e-bay, hoping I can find it without sacraficing my first born. (I actually might consider my third born at times, but that's another matter...) What's the deal with the RPGA - they ostensibly have responsibility and authority over the World of Greyhawk, and yet the namesake city remains unavailable? Am I the only one who finds this odd? |
#12Brom_BlackforgeNov 18, 2004 13:05:49 | I don't fault the RPGA for not having any more copies available. Nothing stays in print forever. However, I wonder whether there is any possibility that we might see the Greyhawk map reprinted in Dungeon sometime in the future (after the multi-part map of the Flanaess, of course). There certainly seems to be interest in it (especially considering what I had to pay on eBay to get a copy LGJ #2). Maybe even some treatment similar to what Istivin is getting (i.e., info about the city plus a short story arc set there). |
#13thanaelNov 18, 2004 13:32:59 | What about the rest of the area descriptions from the LGJ map ? I recall it was mentioned somewhere in LGJ 4 or 5 that these would be continued somewhen, but they never where... |
#14grodogNov 19, 2004 23:00:30 | IIRC, I may have a spare copy or two of LGJ#2: if anyone's interested in trading for it, I'd be happy to dig around in boxes to see.... Shoot me an email if you want me to risk the closet death trap ;) |
#15zombiegleemaxNov 20, 2004 9:22:01 | I would just buy The Adventure Begins and quit worrying about LGJ#2, It's alot easier to get and has alot more information in it about the city and what resides within a various number of buildings within. You could still use Denis' (Maldin's) map with the information in TBA if you so wished. |
