#1zombiegleemaxNov 16, 2004 19:28:00 | Now that the Wizards of High Sorcery have decided that wild magic is "blasphemous", and that sorcerers are to be treated as renegades, how are they going to go about dealing with the problem? Especially given the low numbers of Robed wizards at the moment ( its just 20 wizards, isn't it? ). While lone sorcerers in more isolated areas might be easy prey for a group of wizards, what about those who have gathered in cabals for mutual advantage and protection? How will the wizards attempt to shut down schools and Academies of sorcery that have been founded in civilized cities and nations, often with the permission of local rulers? And whose masters / students are respected citizens? Hell, what if the local ruler is himself or herself a sorcerer? ( Town mayors, petty kings, Solamnic nobles, members of the Ergothian house royal, etc, could all potentially count sorcerers among their number ) If nothing else, if the Orders start persecuting honest citizens for the "crime" of sorcerous talent, that will mean war with the Legion of Steel, whose code requires them to protect the common folk of Ansalon. That would be disastrous for Dalamar and crew - an attack on a wizard's conclave by an organized force of Legion Sorcerers could potentially wipe out the refounded WOHS. Imagine the consequences if the Legion sorcerers and the Thorn Knights temporarily allied to attack the Orders in concert - its not so far-fetched that it couldn't happen, desperation can make for strange alliances after all. I think that the Wizards need to think very, very carefully about how to proceed. |
