#1zombiegleemaxNov 16, 2004 22:58:10 | I'm owrkign on writing my own mass combat system, based on the rules given by Agimimon at 3rdedition.org , as well as the game Kohan: Immortal Soveriegns. I'll post the system later(don't have time right now), but I was wondering: does anyone know the make-up of the different armies post-WoS? Has this been dealt with anywhere, and if not, does anyone else think that Sov Press should make a web enhancement on it? |
#2true_blueNov 16, 2004 23:23:19 | WoTC is coming out with a new book next year that deals with armies and mass combat. You can see it on the products page: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/860900000 I really dont know much of what will be all in it, but it sounds like a neat idea. |

And anyways, WotC already has mass combat rules presented in the Miniatures Handbook. But that's also beside the point. Here's how the general set-up of a unit is. There are 4 slots: a Company Slot, a Leader Slot, and 2 Support Slots(I ripped this from Kohan). A Company is at least 10 men, all of the same race, class, level, abilities, and equipment(to keep things less complicated). An example would be a company of archers(Human Warrior 1 with a longbow, short sword, and studded leather). Each unit has 2 Support Slots. The level of a Support unit is determined by the Leadership score of the Leader. There is 1 man in each slot per 50 men in the Company. So, a Company of 10 with 2 Support Slots has 2 additional men; a Company of 60 with 2 support slots has 4 men, 2 per slot. A Support unit can be an archer to back up some footmen, footman to protect some archers, or a Solamnic Auxiliary Mage. Multiple men taking up the same slot have the same statistics. Instead of having multiple men in the same slot, you can instead choose to add +3 to the level of the Support unit, but divide the number of men in half. For example, instead of 2 level 10 War Mages, you could have 1 level 13 War Mage. I haven't tested this out quite yet, so I don't know if that's completely balanced. The Leader is the most important of all. A Leader must have the Leadership feat, and also be more powerful than the Company. For example, a 6th level Fighter can't lead a Company of 6th level Fighters, but can lead a Company of 6th level Warriors. So, how's it sound so far? PS: My geeky friend, who's my assisstant DM and helps me write things like this actually had a dream where he was helping me write these rules. We're sad. |
