Are there any surviving highlords left in this period of Krynn? If no, is it feasible that any new one would arise even with Big T no longer in the picture?

I believe Toede is still around. I doubt he'll ever die. ;)

Other than that, I believe all the remaining highlords are dead.

Actually didn't he get wasted by a white dragon or something along those lines?

Toede's immortal. He dies and keeps coming back. Read Lord Toede for the full story.

Well, if the original Highlords are dead, what is the likely hood that new ones would rise up? Be it due to the mantle being passed down to unknown offspring or to individuals who wish to champion the old dragonarmies cause.

Not much of a chance, really. Takhisis is behind that. The War of the Lance book does state that several individuals (such as highmasters serving under the other highlords) took up the mantle of highlord after the the more well-known ones died, but eventually with the collapse of the Dragonarmies and the rise of the knights of Takhisis, the highlord title more or less vanished.

In the Age of Mortals, there wouldn't really be much benefit from the PrC, for a start. Toede certainly doesn't have it.

I disagree, there are plenty of opportunities for a Dragon Highlords in the Age of Mortals, by serving the three Dragons of Estwilde, namely Pitch, Fume and Cinder.

I conciously model the minions of these three dragons after the old dragonarmies, using Dark Thralls as replacements for Draconians, and Dragonspawn as replacements for Dragonarmy officers. The Dragon Highlords of course are the three Dragons themselves.

Good points. I still think it would be a neat adventure hook to have a highlord appear to be a antagonist for the PCs though.

I'm not talking on the scale of another full blown Krynn shattering war, but more along the lines of a small region in Ansalon with highlord and a young adult dragon gathering a small horde of riffraff.

Well, of course, if that's what you're after then any kind of villain would fit the bill. The honest-to-goodness highlords, however, are gone. Anybody calling themselves one in the Age of Mortals is piling it on.

He must be extra strong by now then; I may be wrong but, wasn't he around during the War of the Lance ?

Yes, but he was dead for a while after the War of the Lance.

Then he died of old age early in the 5th Age...then the gods came back, and apparently didn't let his soul move on and made him come back to life...so now he's back in control of Flotsam.

So...yeah he was alive during the War of the Lance...but he's been dead for over half of the last 60 years. And really...he's not going to get powerful as Mayor of Flotsam...it's not like he was adventuring or anything.

Actually Toede is not Immortal. He can die. In fact Judith (a Hell-maiden) is waiting for him to die or be killed as he has posted his resume with her for a position in the hiearchy of the Abyss.

Also I don't recall any mention of Toede living in the book , when ulin and his wife to be go to Flotsam.

Hey Brim, where does it state this about Toede coming back after the War of Souls?

Toede actually makes an appearance in one of the newer tales anthologies. Dont remember the name but it was the one before "Dragons in the Archives" so it is fairly recent. He is portrayed as a very ancient figure that relies on his servants to speak for him, but does show he kept a keen and devious mind. Hope that helps.

Yeah, when Ulin and Lucy were in Flotsam, Toede was dead.

According to the d20 gaming material...Toede's back. But I don't know why.

Being immortal doesn't mean he can't die. He keeps coming back. Death can't claim him for long - the Abyss is afraid he'll take over and the Dome of Creation doesn't want him.

Inspirational is one word for it...sure.

It's Jeff Grubb and it involves Toede. So it was destined to be a good laugh...and it was. Pick it up when you get a mo' Arek, you'll love it.

Yes while Toede is in the story, it is more of a gnome tale. There, you've been warned.

Sounds good. I'll check it out. So far the only one I've read from that book was Jamie's short story (don't remember what it was called). That one was good...but it was depressing as hell.

Yep. It's called Lord Toede by Jeff Grubb. It's part of the Villains Series. Very funny book. Certainly the best of that series, arguably one of the best DL books, period.

Thanks Brim!

Not everything I write is depressing, but I really couldn't figure out how to write a whimsical comedy involving elven characters after the War of Souls...

;)

Now Jeff's story, there were some laughs there.

No doubt. It was a very powerful story Jamie, but it kind of drained me after I read it. But I think that's a sign of a strong story. That, and I could relate to the main character somewhat (metaphorically of course because my home hasn't been turned into a lake...but the trouble with his loved one, that I could relate to).

Anyway...good stuff.

Need to get to that Lord Toede story though...
