#1DragonhelmNov 28, 2004 20:00:06 | I'm looking to find some examples of griffon names, preferably elven ones. Anyone know of any? |

#3zombiegleemaxNov 28, 2004 22:06:43 | Acruballis is the only Griffon I can ever remember being mentioned personally. ALl other griffons ever mentioned are more or less treated as generic creatures, although it is possible Lucia Solamnus had a name for hers which I can't remember at the moment. |
#4uziel.the.fallenNov 28, 2004 22:34:56 | Actually Arcuballis wasn't the only one ever named. A couple of others that spring to mind are Taggi from 'The Citadel', and Ravenclaw from 'The Dragons'. |
#5DragonhelmNov 28, 2004 22:44:51 | I know you're going to smack yourself when I say this one. *SMACK!* :D Basically, I'm looking for a naming pattern. As it stands now, I don't really see one. |
#6uziel.the.fallenNov 28, 2004 23:00:40 | No, not really. I guess the major difference in these names, are the ones that riders/owners give them (ie. Taggi & Arcuballis) versus a true griffon name (ie. Ravenclaw), which we see when Ravenclaw speaks to Darlantan in 'The Dragons'. Since you are after names for which the elves would give their griffon mounts, I'd go with strong sounding names, perhaps meaning something in elvish. Such as Lokethyar (kethyar meaning pride in elvish). Of course for your true griffon names, I'd go with more primal or tribal sounding names. Basically something associated to their climate, temperament, something proud and warlike, or aerian in nature. |
