There are 3e versions of the latter 3 in Terrors of Athas - magma is in Manual of the Planes. Elemental lords have appeared in various forms throughout the various editions of the D&D game and have individual names. Kossuth (fire), Akadi (air), Grumbar (earth) and Istishia (water) were the original ones back in 1e and, iirc, these have been absorbed into the Forgotten Realms cosmology. Dark Sun does not necessarily recognise the existence of such beings, however (and its elemental planes differed quite strongly from standard cosmology under 2e rules). There are indeed aarakocra living in the White Mountains, in a settlement called Winter's Nest. The White Mountains lie north of the Tablelands, sandwiched between the Barrier Wastes and the Sea of Silt. Eldaarich is certainly within a few days flight of Winter's Nest, but I would say that the reason for their conflict is the fact that Daskinor (Sorcerer-King of Eldaarich) is just a paranoid loon and they are the current targets of his delusional hatred. Lalali-Puy of Gulg was the Champion dedicated to wiping them out, but she was unsuccesful and (I'd imagine) the rebellion against Rajaat brought her genocide to a premature end. Still, I seem to recall something about Aarakocra not being allowed in Gulg, so possibly she still keeps some of her old ideas intact. 3e rules give them Auran, which is the language of Air (and a bloody silly idea, imho, heh heh) so I suppose they would have that in common with other fliers. I dunno about racial enemies, but you could devise a rivalry with the kenku, should you so desire. (Aarakocra are cool. Had a great one in my last DS campaign, the late, lamented Kraa'ak.) |
