Hi! I'm going to be writing an article (hopefully more than one) for Dragon/Dungeon magazine's new "Creature Catalog" feature.

I was looking for ideas on themes for such an article. What regions, organizations, secret places, etc do you think would make the best basis for an article focusing on monsters associated with said item?

are you planning on making the background to your article greyhawk specific?

maybe volcanic monsters of the hellfurnaces or monsters of the sea of dust might be good ideas to run by them.

Have you ever been told the tale of that giant violet hamster from Hepmonaland?

*Don't try to plagiate it, this is my copyright, but if you would pay me fair price...*

yes… and no. yes, in the sense that I would like to tie in as many references to WoG as possible (names of places, people, things). However, Dragon prefers not to have articles that are so tied to the flavor of one world that they can’t be used in other worlds.

If I have a creature that lives in the Hellfurnaces, for example, it would also have to be suitable to stick in a similar sort of volcanic region in someone’s home campaign or another published world. I will not remove the Greyhawk references however – Erik Mona wouldn’t have it any other way. ;)

maybe volcanic monsters of the hellfurnaces or monsters of the sea of dust might be good ideas to run by them.

cool – what sorts of creatures might be found in those areas? I have a fair amount of WoG source material, but I need to know where to look. ;) I’ll be doing conversions as well as new monsters.

Instead of totally new monsters, how about old favorites that never got translated to 3/3.5? I don't think Norkers ever made the cut. And the Bullywugs that ended up in the Forgotten Realms setting can't even exist in Dwellers of the Forbidden City, where they were invented. Since they lost their leap ability, they can't even get in or out of the stockade wall they built themselves!

And how about rot grub?

norkers were converted, but in the hard-to-find Living Greyhawk Journal.

bullywugs, i probably can't use again either because they appeared in the FR book - sans leap, unfortunately.

now, rot grubs, as far as i know are up for grabs. ;)

if you are looking to convert Froggy Freaks... I believe that Grungs are yet to be touched.

Grungs! There may be a few other beasties from Greyhawk Adventures that are untouched. Crystalmists come to mind.

i have converted both of those already, and may indeed use them in my article.

i'm fairly certain i have gotten everything from both GH Adventures, and MC #5 which wasn't already converted.

How about elaborating upon the Cauldron of Night, from Ivid the Undying, BOZ? I'm sure that environment has warped sufficient numbers of creatures there to generate an article or three of beasties....
