#1CyrissDec 09, 2004 1:15:03 | I'm planning on running the Deva Spark module soon and was wanting to get some feedback on this adventure. I'm a bit hesitant to run it because I don't hear much about it, it's the least expensive module, it has that sappy good-natured feel to it, and it seems "empty" (like I have to fill in a lot of gaps to add excitement). To anyone that has run this, did you add encounters to it to spice it up or just run it as is? It looks like it needs lots of random encounters, like when the PC's try to reach the phoenix nest, the trek seems a little dull the way it's written. I'm running this because the party is tired of being on Baator and I felt this would be a great change of environment (the exact opposite). I also came up with a campaign back story from this that involves the deva. But I am worried that this module will be very lame to the players. |

When we played it the "hook" was embedded while our party was already on the lower planes and heading back. I'm less excited about the standard "you're in bar" beginning - even a special Sigilian Bar. The one thing I didn't like was the backstorry of how the Deva lost the spark in the first place. I've toyed with reworking it in case I ever run the material and usually my thinking runs along the lines that it makes more sense if the Deva has to "hide" the spark upon entering the lower planes and the Bebileth comes upon it and consumes it...gaining a link to the Deva which it then seeks out. Begin combat. Begin adventure. If the module seems too "happy/good" there are certainly ways to put some kick into the ending. For example the "prefered" merged creature could lack either the good or evil subtype and thus be expelled from direct service to the Deva's diety. Such a creature then has to go find its way in the planes... -Eric Gorman |
