I saw that there was a gnomish tinkerer presitge class in the WotL book. I know you can't give me specifics on it, but could someone give me a general idea or review on what it is? I haven't had a chance to get the book yet and one of my players was asking about a gnomish inventor class.

Being a Gnomish Tinker allows you to 'tweak' (Kitbash) existing items to make them work 'better'. Also allows you to have ready made plot devices (MacGuffin) that recreate the effects of low level 0 and 1st level wizard spells. Couple other interesting abilities like Patent Pending, or Remarkable Discovery. But I'd say Kitbasha nd MacGuffin are the meat and potatoes of the class.

It was also designed to go hand in hand with the master core class introduced in the book, but be versatile enough that you can also have a gnome rogue/gnomish tinker, wizard/gnomish tinker, fighter/gnomish tinker, or even cleric of Reorx/gnomish tinker. One of the advantages of being a prestige class rather than a core class in this instance is giving them some fairly narrow class features that work best in combination with another class' abilities.

The master is a little like a PC version of the NPC expert class, although it's more than that. When you take the class, you choose a primary focus - Sage, Craftsman, Performer, or Professional - and this opens up a number of knacks and feat choices for you. At 7th level, you get a secondary focus. With the class, you can more or less create non-spellcasting bards (master performers), adventuring bartenders (master professional), blacksmith heroes (master craftsman) or scholars (master sage).

It's a skill-heavy and feat-heavy class with a number of other tweaks to it. Quite suitable for many roles that would normally force you to play a rogue or the less-powerful expert.

Cheers,

Master (Sage) is ideal for the wizard who wants to beef up his Knowledge skills and is willing to sacrifice a level of casting ability to do it (my White Robe diviner has two levels of Master). This can be mitigated somewhat by the Practiced Spellcaster feat.
