#1jaanosDec 24, 2004 1:44:00 | Well everyone; I'll go first: I wish you all a very merry christmas. My the lord shine upon you and your families at this special time of year, and may Santa bring a nice hard-cover edition of the secret Darksun 4.0 which athas.org and WOTC have secretly been working on as the default world when they launch D&D 4.0 in January 2005, complete with Epic rules, and Dregoth Ascending and the completed Essays on Debating Eiquette co-authored by Jaanos and Xlor :D , with input from Nyt and Pen, and whatever else you want :D (me wants my fiancee to land earlier than 9pm christmas day... but that's not going to happen ) Bring on 2005! |

#16KamelionDec 27, 2004 13:31:05 | Athasian Rain-Dire (Rain incarnation dire elk) Huge Elemental (Air, extraplanar, water) Hit Dice: 12d8+63 (117 hp) Initiative: +0 Speed: 50 ft. (10 squares), Fly 50 ft. (average) Armor Class: 15 (-2 size, +7 natural), touch 8, flat-footed 15 Base Attack/Grapple: +9/+24 Attack: Slam +14 melee (2d6+7) or gore +14 melee (2d8+10) Full Attack: Slam +14 melee (2d6+7) or gore +14 melee (2d8+10) and 2 hooves +9 melee (2d4+3) Space/Reach: 15 ft. / 10 ft. Special Attacks: Cerulean madness, chill, trample (2d8+10) Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., DR 10/magic, elemental traits, low-light vision, scent Saves: Fort +13, Ref +8, Will +4 Abilities: Str 24, Dex 11, Con 20, Int 2, Wis 11, Cha 7 Skills: Hide –4, Listen +10, Spot +9 Feats: Alertness, Diehard, Endurance, Power Attack, Toughness Environment: North Polar region Organization: Solitary (if shunned during rain-dire games) or team (8 plus sleigh) Challenge Rating: 9 Treasure: Presents, lots of presents Alignment: Lawful jolly Advancement: 13-24 HD (Huge); 25-36 HD (Gargantuan) Level Adjustment: - You hear a jingle of small metal bells and barely have time to register the thundering mass that sweeps down from the heavens before you are crushed flat into the sand. A distant “ho ho ho” floats back towards you as you pick yourself up and dust the tinsel from your hair. The athasian rain-dire is an imposing and aggressive beast, especially once it has imbibed sufficient quantities of egg-nog. A rain-dire has dark-colored, shaggy hair covering its body and a nose that flashes with elemental energies of uncertain origin. The creature’s enormous antlers can span up to 12 feet and the beast can weigh as much as 3 tons. This total can double by the New Year, however, due to over-indulgence in roast erdlu, basted neep and mulled broy. There are only a handful of athasian rain-dires known to exist. Those that have been catalogued by sages include Dancer, Prancer, Donner, Blitzen and, erm, John, Paul, George and Ringo. They are rumored to be led by a 36 HD rain-dire called Rude Elf and serve an ancient raaig who goes by the name of S’antaa. S’antaa is the sole surviving adherent of a lost athasian pantheon which included such eldritch luminaries as the Tooth Feylaar, the Eastern Bvanen and Donald Drik. Mercifully, all details on these figures have been lost to the sands of history. Combat If an athasian rain-dire believes himself to be challenged or dismissed as an object of excessive game-designer inebriation, he tries to drive off his perceived enemy by bellowing loudly (noises akin to “fa-la-la-la-laa, la-la-la-laaaaa” and “humm-baaaag” are most common) and pawing the ground (or that secretary from accounts, if available). If this proves ineffective, he charges with his head lowered to deliver a vicious gore with his ridiculously sized antlers, then follows up with trample attacks. And probably more bellowing too. Cerulean Madness (Su): An athasian rain-dire’s nose sparks with lightning and rumbles with thunder when it attacks. This mind-affecting ability causes creatures struck by the rain-dire to become confused (Will negates DC 14) for 1d8 rounds and possibly also embarrassed for the same period of time. The save DC is Charisma-based. Chill (Ex): An athasian rain-dire’s natural attacks and unarmed strikes deal 1d6 additional points of cold damage and leave a sprinkling of sparkly snowflakes on the target. Creatures striking the rain-dire with natural attacks or unarmed strikes also suffer this cold damage. Trample (Ex): Reflex half, DC 23. The save DC is Strength-based. Skills: An athasian rain-dire receives a +4 racial bonus to all Hide checks, which is really quite absurd when you think about it. |
