#1CthulhudrewJan 17, 2005 19:36:41 | Okay, maybe you guys can help me. In the Buhrohur entry in the Dawn of the Emperors DMs book, it mentions that Baroness Gilla Blyskarats is of the clan Farkres, ruling clan of Buhrohur. I don't think I know what to make of that. Her last name is Blyskarats, which sounds like a clan name itself, but I'll just assume its a family name, and the Blyskarats family is a part of the clan of Farkres. Now how can she rule the clan of Buhrohur if she's a a member of the clan of Farkres? She's unmarried, and inherited the title of Baroness from her father, the previous baron (making him a Farkres as well). So I'm confused. Maybe I'm not reading the entry right? All it says is this: (Clan Farkres, ruling clan of Buhrohur). The only thing I can think of is maybe the entry is supposed to mean that the clan of Buhrohur is the ruling clan of the dwarves of Buhrohur, but that the current Baroness is from the clan of Farkres- in other words, to Thyatians, the Farkres woman is in charge of the barony, but to the dwarves, the Buhrohur clan is actually in charge? I don't know. |

Of course that's what that means. For some dumb reason, I was reading that as two separate entries- "clan Farkres" and "ruling clan of Buhrohur", rather than your interpretation. In other words, I was envisioning an actual "clan" of Buhrohur, rather than a place. Stupid, stupid, stupid... Thanks for setting me straight. |

Perhaps the Buhrohurs were the original founders of the region, but have since lost control of the Barony. Maybe they hold a grudge against the Farkres, and in particular, the Blyskarats. Who says political intrigue is limited to the humans in the Senate? Maybe the Buhrohur clan mysteriously died out, or moved away (to look for gold in Glantri?). Maybe the Buhrohur clan settled the region, but then split into several new clans after a couple of generations. Maybe Buhrohur was not a clan, but a dwarf hero who made a name for himself fighting alongside Lucinius and Zendrolion against the Alphatians. For his service, he was granted a barony. Unfortunatly, Buhrohur's reign was cut short by the mysterious explosion that destroyed his fortress on the peak of Mount Makrast. |

#6katana_oneJan 17, 2005 21:05:15 | Where is this reference found in DotE, I can't find it. DM's Sourcebook for Dawn of the Emporers, page 8: "Barony of Buhrohur" |
#7HuginJan 17, 2005 21:26:13 | OK, katana_one, you got to see my post that gets it's name-sake from this thread's title. I got confused and mixed up Buhrohur with Buhrodar. (They are awfully close you know). Anyhow, I'm going to take a peek over at the Vaults to see if there has been any history done for Buhrohur. I'm wondering if perhaps Buhrohur splintered off of the Buhrodar clan. Hmmm... any thoughts out there? |

#10spellweaverJan 18, 2005 10:18:31 | Somewhere in the DotE or at the Vaults I read something about the dwarves of Thyatis having been invited by the emperor at some stage to build the imperial palace and several forts for him. And then they settled in the mountains of Thyatis and just remained there until this day. I can't remember the year they emigrated from Rockhome to Thyatis but wasn't there a post somewhere here at the forum about dwarven clans and dwarven Forges of Power, which concluded that there are three clans outside Rockhome (of Rockborn dwarves): one in Karameikos, one in Thyatis and one in Alphatia? :-) Jesper |
