Logic Problem

First, let me say I know there has to be some suspension of logic in games like this but that can only go so far.

I am running a SJ campaign in a realm based on the "Beyond the Spider Moon" article. I have added a couple of planet to it but it is otherwise unchanged.

One possible solution the PCs will have to the overall problem I am giving them will be to negotiate with a very old blue dragon for assistance.

My problem is where should the dragon's lair be? The only thing that really makes sense to me is for it to be on the ice planet I added to the campaign.

The problem with that is the planet gets destroyed when the big event starts which would either kill the dragon or spur him into action with no PC interaction.

Any ideas?

...but try this!

How about having the PCs hurry through the collapsing planet to escape to their ship? Then they're there. And so's the dragon. :D

It would be a fun encounter but most likely result in a TPK because the dragon would be fairly upset at his home being destroyed and he may suspect that the players had something to do with it.

To simplify my question,
Where in the universe would a very old blue dragon make his lair besides the ice planet?

A blue dragon usually lairs in hot desert climates, and I believe SoSM has such a planet.

I feel really dumb. I was confusing the blue and white dragons.
Where could I stick a white dragon?

Lets see, off hand I'd say:

A large comet
Ice rings around a planet
A really high mountain/glacier on the dwarf planet
The dark side of a moon
In a cave complex on a Europa-style moon/planet

Not unless your PCs are really stupid! It's not a fight they could win, so it's not one they should start. The Dragon probably wouldn't either - it's smart enough to work out the PCs are not powerful enought to destroy his home. It probably considers them petty looters (which is what they could've been up to, but don't tell the Dragon!). The Dragon is also smart enough to realise that these adventurers can be put to good use - bribed or scared into helping the dragon find out what just nuked it's home. They can get about the universe a lot easier than a Dragon.

Tah Dah!

PCs and Dragon all mixed up.

Nightdruid covered all the obvious lairs.

wherever the heck he wants?

more personality would be useful...

if he's at the age where solitude with his hordes of shineys it top of the list...
then he's big... real big...
so why not some unnamed ship graveyard in a asteroid field...
gives him space to fly...
caves to live in...

and he could have a small clan of kobolds or the like to manage and help protect the ships in which his oodles of shines are hidden
