#1TorackFeb 15, 2005 10:27:03 | I'm fairly sure I've started another duh!-thread here, but I was looking over the art gallery on the WotC site and noticed they had a fair number of Athasian monsters in there... So far I've spotted the Spirit of the Land, Thri-Kreen, Caller in Darkness and a couple of others. I know there's an Athas.org department working on converting the monsters from Athas and I was wondering about your(and ofcourse the others) opinion of these, appearing-to-be-finished monster write ups? Also, I'm really digging the artwork in the Art-gallery and the published books, but that's just me and I'm currently rambling... ;) |

#3KamelionFeb 15, 2005 11:05:43 | There are quite a few 2e Dark Sun monsters that appeared in Monster Manual II, namely the Braxat, Cloud Ray, Forest Sloth, Megapede, Moonbeast, Nightmare Beast, Psurlon, Rampager, Spirit of the Land and Thri-Kreen and a smattering of other elsewhere (like the Caller in Darkness you mentioned, from the XPH). For the most part, these conversions work fine. In a couple of places, the Monster Bureau has made more Athas-specific versions of these creatures (such as the Athasian Braxat in ToA and the Giustenal Caller in Darkness in TotDL) and our thri-kreen differs slightly from the one presented in MMII and the XPH - we don't use the naturally psionic kreen, preferring to represent psionic kreen through Wild/Hidden Talent feats or manifester levels in a psionic class. I'd say that you would get pretty good mileage out of the versions published by WotC, if you choose to use those instead, though. |
