Hi. I do deity and powerful outsider stats by reqest over on the FR boards, and someone just posted a reqest and provided a lot of information about a long list of Demon Lords. He attained it from a no longer existing website, and I suspect that it might come from a Greyhawk novel or Sourcebook from 2e. If any of you could either a) verify the information, or b) tell me where I could find info on the named Demon Lords, I would be much obliged.

Blackdraken, Horlas: Usurper Prince of Morgonaugh, former realm of the dead prince Tashk. Enemy of Mot. (I also remember hearing that he was somehow allied with Lolth, looking for a confirmation)

Alvarez: A lord, known as the Purging Duke and the Duke of Inquisition. Alvarez is a master of torture who searches the ranks of the Tanar'ri incessantly for signs of the taint of Law. In his mortal life (three thousand years ago) he slaughtered much of the nation he served as he found first the dissidents, then the intellectuals, then the gypsies, then the nobles, and finally the merchants guild of various imaginary crimes. He was finally burned to death by an outraged mob. As a mere Petitioner, he outwitted the Nalfeshnee of Woe who judged him, and served as a maggot loving Chasme, and then as a powerful Glabrezu Assassin. Alvarez controls legions upon legions of Chasme, Armanites, and Babau. He is said to be omniscient, able to divine the true nature of any creature he see's, but this does not seem to affect his judgement one way or the other - he destroys those he wishes to destroy, and this means they were guilty of something. He can spit a highly corrosive acid, and cast earthquake, heal, hovering road, resurrection/destruction, shadow engines, shape change, time stop and timelessness at will.

Charun: a lord, the Marshal of Thanatos. Charun is a grisly deity that appears as a large man with black-green hair (that looks, but actually is not, a large number of snakes), with a long hooked nose and feathery wings, wielding a mallet. After Orcus was slain, Charun vanished from Thanatos completely, wandering the Abyss with his herds of petitioners and undead until he heard rumors of his masters return. In his absence, his job was done by Greater Banshee’s

Eldanoth: lord of crime and hatred. Eldanoth, a servent of Orcus, is the patron of crime, hatred and murder. He is the progenitor of homicides and the tempter of murderers. Even other abyssal lords, even Alvarez, consider him to be unbalanced. His worship includes the sacrifice of criminals by other criminals. It’s said that those who pray to him gain the courage to murder and, in their sleep, dream of the perfect way to frame another for a crime. Eldanoth appears as an emancipated humanoid with smiling fangs, catlike eyes and serpents growing from his fingertips. He’s elaborately dressed in a jade-encrusted kilt and an oversized hunting headdress. Eldanoth makes no noise as he moves; he’s a master thief, sorcerer, and assassin. He can change his form at will to better hunt prey.

Fraz’Urb’Luu: a lord, The Prince of Deception, The Lord of Lies, The King of the Mind, The Father of Treacheries. Wars with Graz’zt. Served by Chidum, Zomar and Yuibiri. His realms were said to once be beautiful places; this is only a cruel deception, for beneath the illusion was decay and rotting flesh. Immured to a stone prison on the Material Plane for several centuries. Fraz is a master of manipulation, using misdirection to deceive even other lords of the Abyss. It is said that the only one to outwit him was that prodigy of trickery Zagig Yragerne, who imprisoned him in his castle for a time. He has returned to the Abyss and is busy returning Hollow’s Heart to the veil of cruel lies that it once was. Fraz’Urb’Loo’s gaze can drain intelligence and wisdom from his victims. He has powerful psionic abilities as well as magic. His face is beautiful but cruel, with eyes like shattered mirrors that reveal the duplicity in those who look into them. His body is hulking and monstrous. He can shapechange at will, of course, and also confuse people with illusions and hallucinatory terrains.

Hacamuli: a lord, one of the messengers of Orcus. Appears as a pale, gaunt horse with hazy black eyes. Flies cover his mangy, sore-infested body. His very gaze drains the life from his victims; he is also able to cause disease and age victims by striking with his hooves. Able to gate in Shadows and Vampires.

J’sald Xerix: Prince of Nightmares, father of Vucarik. J’sald Xerix is an ancient entity that claims to be one of the founding Powers of the Abyss. He rules from the Nightmare Cage, a lost layer where all thoughts and desires come to pass in the most obscene manner as possible. There he is eternally imprisoned by his own thoughts; all of his dreams of escape mere contructs of the plane. The Nightmare Cage is nothing and everything; thoughts become twisted reality, as mutable as desire. The only permanent inhabitant is J’sald

Knight Errant, The: a humanoid demon bound with rings of cold fire and dripping with lightning. It allows no one who look at it to live, no matter how far it must hunt those who try to flee

Mandrillagon: a prince, Demogorgon’s younger brother(!). Possibly related to Asima. Described as a monstrous, blue-faced parody of a mandrill, with massive fangs of filthy yellow-gray. Controls two layers, served by monkey demons. Called one of the mightiest of princes.

Marduk: King of Fire Demons; one of the six most powerful demons. Lord of Balors, possibly an ascended one, has risen to power quickly. Bleeds molten lava when injured. Wields the awesome Firefan, one most powerful Abyssal artifacts.

Nergel: The Justiciar, Spymaster of the Abyss. A lord, advisor to Graz’zt. Desribed as hunched, crooked and misshapen, as tall as Graz’zt, with a dark and dour visage. He loves to see death, and has some sort of affinity with undead; able to command shadows. Also called the ‘Prince of Unlife.’ A title normally reserved for Orcus, a lord he has spied for on occasion. This giant demon spies for other demon lords, while counter-spying for their enemies (without either party knowing it). Although his efforts usually produce little gain for him, it usually results in the two demon lords in question fighting (usually erupting into a major war) when they have found that they have been spying on each other. Whether this demon is just trying to keep other demons busy to keep himself alive, or whether he is just trying to spread chaos is unknown. He usually tries not to be the target of the anger when the demon lords have found out that each of them betrayed their trust in each other (although if either demon found out what was truly going on, Nergel would not stay in his portion of the Abyss for long). In combat (which he avoids at all costs unless forced to engage in it) he can rake with his two foreclaws for enormous effect. His bite, may also cause a random disease. His roar can deafen people and also causes darkness.

Verin: Master of the Roving Hordes, Chancellor to Graz’zt. Verin is one of the most brilliant minds in the Abyss, infinitely patient; able to comprehend the motives of lawful, chaotic, good and evil alike and predict their future actions. He hasn’t a bit of elitism in his skeletal, transparent body, and he treats Tanar’ri and mortals with equal respect. He has a network of spies throughout the planes and is often found in the courts of other lords of the Abyss to advise and manipulate them; he has friendships with Zzyczesiay and Va’aughrosfl. As the albino Verin, he is well known as a servant to Graz’zt. In his aspect as the ebon Ztefano, few know his origins or loyalties. Killing one of his aspects does not kill the other. Acid spittle, gaze attack, the abilities of a Marilith are just a few of his many abilities. Tall, stick-like, leather-skinned androgynous albino with red-pink eyes. Handsome, an alien mox of demonical and human features, very evil and intelligent, patient and cunning. Powerful magic use, able to vomit a deadly energy ray. Wears silvered battle armor and wields a crystalline spear of demon-slaying

I'm fairly certain, but don't hold me to this, that you can find several of the Demon Lords in the H1-4 Bloodstone Adventure series(Noteably H4 as it deals with the Abyss).

I think you could also find some of the stuff in some of the Planescape material. Again, don't hold me to this.

I believe there was a 2E Guide to Hell, but not a Greyhawk supplement. There are Greyhawk demons in this list, though some have names spelled differently. I have a list of named demons & devils from Greyhawk sources if you are interested.

Guide to Hell has info on Devils, not demons, and I own it. Perhaps you were thinking Armies of the Abyss? What about those Bloodstone lands modules? The reason I think that these may be from GH sources is that I have seen references to them on Greyhawk websites, and no where else.

BTW, none of these have info in any planescape books I don't own.

I have no idea what 'Armies of the Abyss' is so I wouldn't be thinking of it, but the Guide to Hell was mentioned recently.

Some of these are mentioned in the MMII, some if Gygax's Gord the Rogue novels. Verin is mentioned in MMII but from the description I believe you mean Vuron.

Vuron (Demon)[NPC]

Armies of the Abyss was written by Erik Mona for Green Ronin's d20 line of books---it's good stuff, and was updated to 3.5 as their collected Book of Fiends (which also added daemons to the mix).

Charun, Nergel and Verin are all mentioned in the AD&D Monster Manual 2, but no information is given other then them being Demon Lords(MM2 p.35)

Fraz-Urb'Luu is also mentioned in H4.

Fraz-Urb’luu: AC -2, MV 12”/ 18” (MC: D), hp 466, #AT 3 and 1, Dmg 13d6 (x2)/3d6 or 1d12, SA spell-like abilities, SD resistances, MR 100%, AL CE, Size L (MM2, pg. 39)

There's also mention of a Charon, but I don't think he's the same as Charun. Charon is mentioned in both the Monster Manual 2 and H4-Throne of Bloodstone.

Eah...those are the only four, I could find.

Alvarez, Eldanoth, Fraz Urblu, Lupercio, Lynkhab, Pale Night, and Verin all come from Faces of Evil - the Fiends, a 2E Planescape accessory.

I had my suspicions about the Gord the Rogue novels, and I have all the Planescape info on any of them. Can someone lay out the order in which the Gord the Rogue novels occur. I know which ones have the info, thanks to jasonzavoda. Grr, this chase is upsetting me.

Saga of Old City (TSR, 1985)
Artifact of Evil (TSR, 1986)
Sea of Death (New Infinities, 1987)
Night Arrant (New Infinities, 1987)
City of Hawks (New Infinities, 1987)
Come Endless Darkness (New Infinities, 1988)
Dance of Demons (New Infinities, 1988)

But the short stories in Night Arrant take place between Saga of Old City and Artifact of Evil, and the events of City of Hawks begin before Saga of Old City and end later in the sequence.

The Gord novels, especially the later New Infinities books are filled with information on demons and the abyss.

I worked up a list of demons from greyhawk sources and I will be posting it on the harvestersheroes website.

I don't know of that website. Mayhaps you could provide a link?

You're quoting one of the pages I made, so I'd better answer this.

Blackdraken, Horlas: Usurper Prince of Morgonaugh, former realm of the dead prince Tashk. Enemy of Mot. (I also remember hearing that he was somehow allied with Lolth, looking for a confirmation)

A fan-made demon from the old Mimir site.

Alvarez: A lord, known as the Purging Duke and the Duke of Inquisition.

From Faces of Evil: the Fiends. A lot of the detail you quote is stuff that I made up.

Charun: a lord, the Marshal of Thanatos.

From the Netbook of Demons.

Eldanoth: lord of crime and hatred.

From Faces of Evil. A lot of the detail here I made up or stole from completely different fiends other people made up.

Fraz’Urb’Luu: a lord, The Prince of Deception,

From the 1e Monster Manual II. Once imprisoned within Castle Greyhawk until freed by Robilar. Also described (briefly) in Faces of Evil. Some of the detail here, again, I made up.

Hacamuli: a lord, one of the messengers of Orcus.

From an old Dragon Magazine article.

J’sald Xerix: Prince of Nightmares

From the Netbook of the Abyss, which was frankly awful. I made up most or all of the detail here.

Knight Errant

From Faces of Evil: the Fiends.

Mandrillagon: a prince

From Dance of Demons and Come Endless Darkness by Gary Gygax, part of his Gord the Rogue series.

Marduk: King of Fire Demons

Another one from Gygax's Gord series.

Nergel: The Justiciar

This description is a combination of the one in Come Endless Darkness and the one in the Netbook of Demons.

Verin: Master of the Roving Hordes

A combination of his description (as Vuron) in Gary Gygax's novels and his description in Faces of Evil.
