This is a discussion that started at the thread of Thorf's Project:
What, do you think, happened to the lakes and rivers of Alfheim after the Shadow-Elf inavsion? Did they stay as they were? Were the water poisoned? Dried-up?

In my thoughts the heavy overnight rain is all part of the spell that kept the Canolbarth forest alive. The rain was Ilsundal doing his part in the downfall of Nithia - simultaneously drying their river up and supplying the water his elves needed.
Now the Shadow Elves just broke the Canolbarth spell - so their is no reason for Ilsundal to maintain his weather manipulation spell even if it was not broken too.

For me this means two things - 1) the Canolbarth is reverting to it's natural state - a fairly barren plateau with natural trees being scrub oak. That said, this will take a very long time, and the death and decay of the existing forest will be interesting.
2) Western Ylaruam is getting a lot more rainfall. For me this will not actually change the desert - Barrimoor's tunnels are extensive enough that the water will go under Ylaruam not over this time, however it's not going to be pleasant for Barrimoor and there could be a lot more monsters popping up in Ylaruam having been flooded out of their nice cosy tunnels.

Also wrt the Shadow elves' attempts to reverse the spell - no chance. The Norworld elves don't do that sort of huge group magics - they also live with nature rather than try to change it. And Rafiel has better things to do with his time than try to re-create Ilsundal's works. Now there might be a chance that as elves the Shdow Elves could persuade Ilsundal to re-establish the spel, but I don't see them thinking of that option.

So I do see the Alfhiem waterways drying out fast - which will make it easier for monsters to travel the underground passages (assuming they have nto collapsed with the demise of the magic keeping them open).

Anyway those are my ideas - have fun

There should definitely be some cool effect with the Sump, but I can't think what.
