I'm preparing to play the classic using the 2e reprint, on the back cover it states the module is for pc of levels 5-7. In the introduction, it states that this module is for levels 11-13. Big difference!
In the original I6 Ravenloft, the vampire Strahd von Zarovich is a 10th level wizard, and that is the adventure the Silver Anniversary reprint is quoting with Levels 5 - 7 on the back cover. In the 2E adventure "House of Strahd", the Count has been upgraded to a 16th level necromancer. The Silver reprint actually uses this version, which is why inside it claims Levels 11 - 13. (Of course now in 3E, Strahd has also gained four levels of Fighter and is just a nudge away from being 'Epic'.)
