#1zombiegleemaxFeb 23, 2005 23:41:49 | I know WOTC didn't make this book but since we are all here and this is 3ed Ravenloft... Do I have to buy the new 3.5 version to the Ravenloft Corebook or can I download the conversion like all the other 3.0 books? I have searched the Kargatane, White Wolf and Sword & Sorcery with no luck. What am I missing? |
#2The_JesterFeb 24, 2005 2:26:31 | The Ravenloft Player's Handbook is the 3.5 update to the 3.0 Ravenloft Campaign Setting. The RL: PHB is 98% identical to the RLCS. The monster rules in the back ar updated, there is a new PrC, the skills have been tightened and they added some very crap-tastic and conterversial new rules. Do not feel pressured to get it. |
#3zombiegleemaxFeb 24, 2005 8:19:01 | I see so they made an entire new book, named it different so you can't just download the update or errata. Very nice. |
#4zombiegleemaxFeb 24, 2005 9:48:44 | What are these craptastic rules you speak of? Are they easy to eliminate? I'm just curious since I only have the 3.0 campaign setting. |
#5The_JesterFeb 24, 2005 12:23:17 | They added a Magic Rating to every domain that limits high level spells in lands where magic is low. Only comes into play at really high levels or one or two lands such as Lamordia. I like it personally but alot of people hate it. They added weaknesses for every class that, while optional, suggest rolling a power check for every level gained and alot of people draw offense from that. And wizards must roll power checks for gaining spells from several schools including evocation so it is possible to be corrupted by learning Tenser's Floating Disc. Since they're seperate they're pretty darn easy to ignore. They're not too bad per se but alot of people like to make a huge deal out of these "so-so" rules slamming the entire book. One more key fact, S&S was required -as per their licencing agreement with WotC- to release new copies with the new edition for all their core books (including the monster book Denizens of Darkness which was re-printed as Denizens of Dread). They couldn't just post an update. Which would have been much easier. Personally, if you don't have the 3.0 or 3.5 books, I just say get whichever one you can find for cheaper. |
#6zombiegleemaxFeb 24, 2005 19:03:04 | I agree with what Jester said but I'm amongst those who don't like those two rules ;). |
#7Matthew_L._MartinFeb 24, 2005 19:08:10 | From what I've seen, the 3.5 update in the RL PH is incomplete--they don't address the paladin's summonable mount or the changes to animate dead, for example. Matthew L. Martin |

#9Prof._PacaliFeb 27, 2005 10:47:38 | From what I've seen, the 3.5 update in the RL PH is incomplete--they don't address the paladin's summonable mount or the changes to animate dead, for example. Also, they didn't lower the DR rating the way it was in the monster manual. As a result, a mature vampire has a higher DR rating than the Tarrasque. |
