Spire in relation to Sigil?

I was wondering if the Spire actually comes through the ring of Sigil and ends within sight of the streets or whether it is totally out of sight.

Cause can't you see "nothing" when you look up other than the other side of the city and some clouds inbetween?

thanks.

You can't see the spire from Sigil.

In fact the space between Sigil and the Spire is Infite.

Welcome to one of the many mind-twists of planescape. Sometimes the planes don't make sense. That's because they aren't supposed to. The only rhyme or reason they have is what you can force on them with your own mind.

I do have to note that one nice thing about having well educated players is that it makes it even more fun when you have ice that doesn't float and is warmer than the water it tops. Chem majors tend to freak out a little bit at that one.

I´ve always liked that Sigil is at the top of the Spire because all believed it was there. There is no prove that the torus floating above the Spire is indeed Sigil.

Aye, you can't actually see it. Every so often the smog and haze of the city is blown out, or at least thinned a bit, and the accepted wisdom is that it's due to "winds off of the spire", though it's impossible to prove and it might just be a sporadic opening of multiple portals to the elemental plane of air.

Regardless of which side to look, outside the ring is simply... well... nothing. Wrap your head around that one.

For all we know, Sigil isn't in the same multiverse as the rest of the planes. It's only that when on the Outlands and looking at the 'top' of the infinite spire that you see a giant ring that we all presume to be Sigil. Whether it is, or is simply a byproduct of belief holding that it's there, is another question.

The Nothing might actually be created by the Spire. As every young bariaur knows, the Spire cancels (or balances) out more magic the closer you get to it. It even cancels out the effects of psionics, poison, and ultimately the power of the gods themselves. Perhaps directly above the Spire it cancels out everything, leaving the nothingness - not darkness, mind you, since even darkness is something - visible from Sigil's Suicide Alley.

It cancels everything except Sigil itself, strangely. Magic and psionics work just fine there too, barring only plane-crossing magics (and time travel, they say). The gods might have all their powers in the Cage, if any were permitted inside.

Where is this location described?

Well, although I am not sure if the source is to be considered canon or not, in issue # 137 of Polyhedron there is an article describing various sites along the Ditch (the foul river running between the Hive and the Lower Ward). One of the places mentioned is called "Suicide Falls", which is the spot where the Ditch runs over the edge of Sigil. At the moment I cannot recall if there is also a Suicide Alley somewhere.

There's a seperate Suicide Alley, though for the life of me I can't recall where, in what book, it's listed.

I believe it is in Brix's Guide to the Cage on The Mimir. Of course I'm too lazy to check.

Where might I find information on the Spire and the Rilmani? Is there any more on the Rilmani except what is in the Monster Compenium? (and of course there is what we have made up)

Not a ton outside of that and the 'Tales from the Infinite Staircase' material. There's some spectacular fan made material on mimir though.
