Killing Time

I recently read a book called Killing Time by Justin Richards that caught my eye while I was at the library. It's a children's detective story, but the plot is surprisingly complex. The reason I'm mentioning it here is that it contains a premise that would be right at home in a Ravenloft or Red Death campaign. (Spoilers follow.) The plot revolves around a clockmaker who creates clocks that can speed up or slow down time for the owner, or even stop or reverse it. However, they come in pairs: one "fast" and one "slow" (neither of which keeps accurate time). The slow clock "steals" time from the fast one; thus, the owner of a fast clock ages at an unnatural rate, while the owner of a slow clock has his lifespan extended indefinitely. Other notes:

- Ownership is signified by the name engraved on the back.
- By turning the hands of the clock manually, you can reverse the owner's aging process (if it's a slow clock) or cause it to fast-forward (if it's a fast clock).
- If you own a slow clock, beware, for if your name is ever defaced, time will catch up with you very rapidly.
- People in the vicinity of a clock without a living owner may sporadically experience weird time effects such as seeing "ghosts" of past events.

This would be a cool variant on Klorr's Timepiece (I think this item was listed in one of the supplement books in the Forbidden Lore boxed set. Also, Forged of Darkness has listed several other of Mr. Klorr's nefarious devices such as a water clock and moondial.

I could definately seeing these fast and slow clocks being other creations of Klorr or some other clockmaker.
