#1zombiegleemaxMar 07, 2005 19:24:37 | Beside the bad editing of this chapter, I'd like to know how can the PCs go in some locations if they enter the Peak of Malystryx from the Plume Entrance (PM2), as suggested by the kenders. From the Plume Entrance (PM2) the PCs stumble upon the ant phalanx, and from there they go directly to the final encounter, skipping a lot of locations described in the Chapter (like the Magma Lake, the Serpent Cave, both Villages and the Volcano's Heart). Is it editing error or am I missing something? (Even the map on page 127 is not correct: a lot of links are not correctly showed). Thanks Max |
#2iconherderMar 08, 2005 10:30:53 | I just started Chapter 6 in my campaign as well. I've been trying to think of ways to spice it up for my group so the finale is memorable and cool (and I haven't been as attentive to the campaign as I should be lately, darn WoW). They have the quest from the Oracles to retrieve an artifact from an Ogre Mage, who I've placed at the top of the volcano. I'm planning on having them be able to explore the ruins, fight the young adult dragon, and have it out with an Ogre Mage and his entourage up there. If they do that after the showdown inside then I'll have the volcano start making things interesting as well. Right now I think we're on a fasttrack to Sindra (that's her name, right?) because the group seems pretty intent on rescuing the Kender. I'm hoping I can impart a little Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom feel to it there. I'd love to hear other ideas about running the inside of the Peak and the fight with Sindra, especially since with my group of 7 players I usually end up having fights be way too easy or come too close to a party wipe (where I have to fudge it a little). |

She's the big bad of the module, so she shouldn't just show up at the very end. Give the heroes some advance warning, and if you like beef up her stats a little later on to really bring out the dragonspawn in her. Don't ever be afraid of introducing NPCs into the game earlier or in different places if you feel it would be more of a challenge that way. Keep in mind too that your heroes are going to be tangling with Grigolthan first, and he's got the staff of bones. He's dangerous, but the worst thing he can do is soften up the PCs for their encounter with Sindra. Cheers, Cam |

#7zombiegleemaxMar 08, 2005 13:02:42 | Sindra was to my suprise a very thought opponent to the players, the fight wasnt very long but whit her incredible reach and multiple AoO and her boost deathtrow she easyly beat 4 of 6 player ( lvl 5 to 7 ) and almost kill grigolthian who was trying to regeneraate in secret. |
#8SysaneMar 08, 2005 13:20:22 | My player's haven't encountered Sindra yet. I did gave her an additional level of Brb (making her 6th) and had her take Clinging Breath Weapon as her bonus feat. I'm figuring that the 5 PCs will be 7th level when the showdown happens. |

#10SysaneMar 08, 2005 13:30:41 | The version my players ran up against was a female red dragonspawn barbarian 11, CR 14. Yeah, mine's only CR 9 but should still be a tough fight for 5 7th level PCs :evillaugh |
#11frostdawnMar 09, 2005 9:31:32 | I had my group meet up with the phalanx and (since one of the PCs put ALOT of points into diplomacy) managed to work with the phalanx. They rescued the kender, and had them hide in one of the side tunnels as the group went in to investigate. The mage went invisible, and went to investigate, so I had a handful of kender zombies standing watch and blocking the exit from the sacrificial chamber leading to the armory. He went back, and reported the zombies, so the fighters charged in to engage them, leaving the spellcasters behind as the artillery pieces. Until of course a sphere of darkness enveloped them, and they started getting attacked by Grigolthan. That fight was fun to carry out since the fighters and spellcasters each had their own problems, and they were forced outside of the typical casters supporting the fighters roles. I LOVE to mix things up that way in order to keep everyone on their toes. After successfully beating Grigolthan and Sindra, they ran into a fetch via a mirror in the hallway leading up to the armory that killed their NPC. On the way out, they discovered that the rescued kender were too weakened to fight off a scouting party of sligs that came around and captured them, so this gave me the opportunity to lead the group to the center of the volcano, and onwards to the tropical rainforest 'snake cave'. That's how I incorporated other sections of the adventure anywho. |
