Well, there's another factor, the pscionists would have a small nation's army behind them whereas the preservers would have to use mercenaries or "Create" their own army, but when it is all said and done, it matters who has the most power, magic or the mind? |

They'd just teleport themselves and the Preservers out to the Salt Flats, and pummell the helpless preservers who could draw no power form the lifeles salt. Also, the Psions could quickly take them out by using more powerful effects in greater quantity, while the Preservers only have a certain amount of spells of each level available. And if any of the Psions know Crystal Shard or Crystal Ball, it's a done deal. |

Well, um, salt flats are kind of not around yet has this would take place during the Green Age. I should have mentioned that. Sorry. It was background story to Green Age city-states ruled by preservers. Also, the Psions could quickly take them out by using more powerful effects in greater quantity, while the Preservers only have a certain amount of spells of each level available. And if any of the Psions know Crystal Shard or Crystal Ball, it's a done deal. If the preservers could not win in a direct battle, then could the indirectly, such as using magic to create a military force that could counter the psions? If that fails, I suppose I could create two citie states with one rulled by preservers and the other ruled by psions. |

Even if both armies are simply fighters equipped by their employers, I think the Psionic side still has the advantage, because there are psionic-enhanced weapons that allow the weilder to regain power points with every strike (LEOF) and things like cogizance crystals. Granted , wizards have scrolls and staves, but the Psionic advantage is contiinuous use of their highest-level powers, and ways to replenish their reserves of power points. Once a Wizard casts their spells, they're gone. Also, to look at it with a different perspective, the Wizard can prepare a Fireball, and it's only a fireball. A Psion can manifest Energy Ball and pick which elemental damage type he wants. Or he can use Crystal Shard, one of the most brutal powers in the book. 1d6 slashing damage per power point spent, no save, power resistance does not apply. A Wizard of equal level to the Psion would be dead in literally two attacks, or even one if the damage dice are high. It's like a full attack action by a fighter with two weapons hitting with all attacks every round. It's kind of funny, in a way. In 2E, a Wizard could dust off a Psion without breaking a sweat, but in 3.5, the tables are turned with a vengeance. I an in no way trying to sound argumentative, but I can't think of a single scenario in which the Wizards could win, unless they had at least double or triple the number of Wizards than the other side had Psions, and even then, it'd be a really tough fight. I read on another post somewhere that the only case in which a wizard and psion can really be considered equal is when they are adventuring through a dungeon, because they both have to allocate their resources over several battles, so the Psion usually would be unwise to just pump out high-level powers at every opportunity. |
#5zombiegleemaxMar 20, 2005 17:25:11 | Don't worry about being arugmentative. When I write, I like to be as accurate as possible. Since I know little of pscionics and magic users, I thought I'd see what others have to say about it. I'd like to use my initial idea, however, if it is not plausable, then why use it? If pscionics are that powerful vs. magic, just think what the Champions would have to face? |
#6zombiegleemaxMar 20, 2005 17:59:05 | On a slightly different note, try out the Mind Mage prestige class, I think it was in Dragon Magazine #313. It's a arcane/psionic merger prestige class, and any character who completes the class is about as powerful as a 20th level wizard and a 20th level psion combined. It's brutal. The combination of Magic and Psionics in the way it is presented is absolutely terrifying. It's the best dragon precursor class I've ever seen. Just thought you might want to check it out. |
