I know we're not supposed to talk about DL novels on this board. Is there somewhere that we can talk about them?

Here's a forum for that. It's non-WOTC (I'm not certain if WOTC has a novels forum.)

While that site is not run by Wizards of the Coast, it should be pointed out that it is Sovereign Press' official Dragonlance website and forum and many Dragonlance authors, including Margaret Weis, post there on occasion.

I think WotC may have decided to loosen up on that policy some.

Still, we'd love to have you over at dragonlanceforums.com!

Actually they haven't loosened up at all. If you ever go to the FR boards, BigSister closes threads on a constant basis because of novel talk.

Here, I dont think too many moderaters actually read the threads heh. So I think we "get away" with stuff sometimes because of that pure fact. The FR boards were the main reason the novels were closed in the first place. I used to read the threads they would make about some of the authors, it was horrible.

While I may say some bad things sometimes, I do try to at least limit it a litte. This recent book has just brought out the badside in me :embarrass But for the most part, most of the people on the Dragonlance boards are pretty respectful.

if you do go to the dragonlance forums, please tell me your handle True Blue (I'm Willowhugger)

I'd love to discuss the Lord of the Rose, Wizard Conclave, and other books with you

eh I rarely go to the dragonlance.com forums just because I dont like the feel. Sometimes, I think that too many of them are so into Dragonlance that they dont look at things "objectively". Its almost like authors and designers can do no wrong. Its one thing to appreciate the work and genuily like it, its another to just agree with something just because of who made it or because its just Dragonlance. I actually wish more of them would come over here... but I'm sure a lot of the people who prefer those boards want the opposite.

I go there sometimes though when looking at things for the novels though. And like once or twice for gaming issues. My handle is the same as here, True_Blue. I try to pretty much stick to the same handle no matter what forums I go to heh, WoTC, dragonlance.com, maxminis.com, etc. Made a different one for bungie.net just so it would match my xbox live nick, or it would have been True_Blue also.

*edit* wanted to edit this to say this isnt supposed to be some kind of diss. Just stating my preference. Obviously any forums that talk more about Dragonlance isnt a bad thing. Just explaining why I choose to linger about these boards more

Huh! Last I heard, they were going to loosen up a bit on that. Guess not.

I think, too, there's a younger audience there. I could be wrong, but age may have part to play in it.

I find that each of the DL forums I go to offers me something a bit different.

I totally understand. Each board has its own feel. Always good to go with the one that works best for you.

Personally, I don't go to the alt.fan.dragonlance newsgroup much anymore as it has a history of flame wars. Not sure if that calmed down any or not.

well, I go over there a little bit and am constantly seeing ones closed for talking even a little bit about the novels. They can't have muhc discussion when it comes down to the novels and a lot of the threads end up getting closed. Shes pretty quick to deal with things. As I said, I think we get away with things because I honestly believe a Wiz_O rarely even reads any of the threads here heh. Most of the ones that get closed are the ones different people report for spamming, etc.

I guess not too many of them are Dragonlance fans heh. But personally I like it, we enjoy a certain amount of freedom and would hate to see that go away. As I said, I know the past week I've been pretty bad, but for the more part most of the people who reference the novels are pretty good and civil to eachother.

Well, afdl hasn't had major flame wars in years. It's pretty much dead now anyways, as are all the other newsgroups I frequent. :P

WizO Drake likes Dragonlance and read the boards. He retired, though.

Really, I doubt the WotC guys even care whether we discuss novels here or not, because we've always been very civil. Paradox has even said that this board has been a model for how novels should be discussed.

Problem is, things weren't so bright in other settings.

Newsgroups and mailing lists seem to not be as popular any more. The DL-L is nearly dead. I think people just prefer message boards these days.

Yeah, although I held my vow never to get involved in boards until I got high speed internet - ok, that was nearly 2 years ago now, but loading almost any web page these days on dialup is like watching grass grow.
