#2gabMar 23, 2005 15:24:48 | The dragon transformations are detailed in Dragon Kings and Defilers and Preservers Both can be purchased in PDF format at SV Games or RPG Now! for about 5$US. |
#3PennarinMar 23, 2005 15:37:43 | As incredible as it may seems, what in the light of the Magazines and athas.org's material, Dark Sun once was a 2nd edition setting. Basically this board was here long before the Magazine articles came out and as such is filled with people discussing 2E DS or the athas.org 3E DS conversion, or homebrew DS, etc..., so you are bound to read stuff that is part of DS yet that ain't found in the Magazines. What I'm trying to say is that the Magazines are "lite" in a lot of areas, dragons being one of them. Like, for instance, did you know that preserver wizards can undertake a similar transformation and become creatures known as avangions? or that elemental clerics can do the same in their own special way? The dragon rage is the #1 thorn in a Sorcerer-King's side: it occurs at about midway to the end and turns him into a mad beast until the transformation is finished. This is what is stunting the growth of most Sorcerer-Kings (SKs), why they aren't more powerful after so many millenias: they are searching for ways to beat the rage (SKs have a reason to not simply go through with the rage, this is explained in the novels of the series The Prism Pentad and The Rise and Fall of a Dragon King). Any other dragon rises in the region and the SKs will probably kill it; if a raging dragon happens in the scene, they will band together and kill it, an incentive, in a way, not to become a dragon unless you are clever enough to successfuly hide from a bunch of SKs. You can find more info on the dragon rage in the 2E supplement that first introduced it: Dragon Kings (availlable here in e-format). More info will be availlable in the near future once athas.org releases its set of 3E epic rules which includes the transformations. |
#4PennarinMar 23, 2005 15:43:33 | Pfff, me and my long posts... |
#5zombiegleemaxMar 23, 2005 21:26:10 | How near in the future, Pennarin? It's so hard to run a DS campaign without solid stats on the heavy hitters! |
#6PennarinMar 23, 2005 21:48:43 | How near in the future, Pennarin? It's so hard to run a DS campaign without solid stats on the heavy hitters! Beats me! Ask Xlorep. |
#7zombiegleemaxMar 23, 2005 21:53:03 | Eh, he's almost never on. Oh, well. Maybe it'll come out before I turn 25...... Would bribery help? I'm willing to pony up some cash to accellerate the process....... |
#8sekerMar 24, 2005 8:02:09 | Hey, Xlor is not the only one on the epic bureau. We have the dragons pretty much figured out, we are still working on some other stuff on the epic rules and all. But we are definately making alot of headway on it. |
#9zombiegleemaxMar 24, 2005 9:56:51 | Maybe release the dragons as soon as they're done, and give us the others as they are made? PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? |
#10xlorepdarkhelm_dupMar 24, 2005 12:24:29 | Maybe release the dragons as soon as they're done, and give us the others as they are made? PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That actually was the plan. And I know I've not been around lately. Real Life(tm) is taking much of my time lately, and probably will up through June. I dunno about past that. I do hope to be able to at least somewhat be more active in the community again. |
#11PennarinMar 24, 2005 16:00:03 | Sorry Seker, I'm aware there are other people in the epic bureau besides Xlorep, no favoritism intended. I should have typed to communicate with the epic bureau instead of with Xlorep. I'm still on the old track dating from when Xlorep was doing his own dragon work. I'm mentally updating now. Ziiip. |
#12xlorepdarkhelm_dupMar 24, 2005 16:46:16 | I'd love to get my own work fired up again, and developed once more. But, just haven't had the time lately. |
#13nytcrawlrMar 24, 2005 17:37:49 | I'd love to get my own work fired up again, and developed once more. But, just haven't had the time lately. You and me both. Getting DSL soon and the website redone though, so that's the first two steps almost out of the way. |
#14zombiegleemaxMar 24, 2005 18:35:41 | As incredible as it may seems, what in the light of the Magazines and athas.org's material, Dark Sun once was a 2nd edition setting. I know... Dark Sun: Wake of The Ravager was actually my first CRPG. It was responsable for sucking me into roleplaying games in the first place For now, I've mainly been DMing planescape (my other RPG love), but I thought it was time to 'get back to my roots'. Thx for the info! |
#15jon_oracle_of_athasMar 25, 2005 12:32:17 | The dragon rules have come a long way since Xlor's initial writeup. They're a bit smoother and easier to grasp for newbies. The Epic Bureau features Dragon authors and other heavyhitters. Unfortunately, we're also a busy lot. Though, dragons should be ready soon. I won't set a specific date, but by the end of April we should be able to release something. Along with Dragons come rules for Psionic Enchantments. |
#16objulenMar 25, 2005 15:53:04 | Sweet. |
#17lyricMar 25, 2005 17:17:28 | Very cool |
#18xlorepdarkhelm_dupMar 25, 2005 18:58:25 | Honestly, I do like the direction we are heading in the Epic Bureau with it all. It's a bit different than my original idea, but it is, as Jon said, more refined. |
#19zombiegleemaxMar 26, 2005 3:02:13 | when someone says dragon transformations...well i get a different idea. Hamanu, Tec, Abalach, Nibenay, all you Defilercons, transform! ** :D slow unfolding as advanced illusion spells collapse and the draconic giant forms emerge :D ** now if you'd said metamorphosis, whole other story. maybe thats just me |
#20PennarinMar 26, 2005 11:17:56 | I think people now use transformation instead of metamorphosis on the boards because the first is easier than the latter to type down without making errors, and because 3E WotC material has been using the term transformation for all of its 10th level metamorphosis PrCs. |
#21zombiegleemaxMar 27, 2005 0:56:12 | haha i dont mind...is just little kid in me alive and well :D |

#23objulenMar 27, 2005 3:52:36 | Have you seen.... ? :P !?!@? :D ??! As long as it's good, that's awesome. |
#24beyowulfMar 27, 2005 7:16:29 | ? :P !?!@? :D ??! I don't know. The fact that its live-action scare me. Somethings just don't translate well to live-action. |
#25xlorepdarkhelm_dupMar 27, 2005 10:10:40 | I don't know. The fact that its live-action scare me. Somethings just don't translate well to live-action. I believe the robots themselves are to be CG. The people are to be live-action. I vaguely remember something where a life-sized CG Optimus Prime was shown at a Hasbro convention in Tokyo, as an unveiling of the "new project" to be undertaken. |
#26zombiegleemaxMar 27, 2005 10:16:17 | Oh....My....God.......! It's finally happening! |
