There was a Mystaran proficiency now feat that allowed one to divide up spell slots to use lesser spells, also there was one that allowed you to conserve spell energy. Anyone know what they are or were

Spell Combination originally appeared in GAZ 3: The Principalities of Glantri. I'm not familiar with the other one. Perhaps it was in that same GAZ, or perhaps it appeared in the Glantri: Kingdom of Magic boxed set.

I made Spell Combination a 3.5 Feat for my campaign - a (not recent) version of it can be seen at http://www.angelfire.com/games4/mystara/feats.html

Or better yet, how 'bout I post the current version here now?
Spell Combination [General]
You can combine smaller spell slots into larger ones, and split larger spell slots into smaller ones.

Prerequisite: Ability to prepare arcane spells.

Benefit: A spellcaster may re-distribute his spell energy. For purposes of this feat, 0-level spells are treated as half-level spell slots. Using this feat, a larger spell slot can be broken up into as many smaller ones as possible, and smaller slots can be combined into larger ones. For example, two 0-level spell slots can be combined to make a single 1st-level spell slot, or a 3rd level spell slot can be divided into one 1st-level slot and one 2nd-level slot. This feat is used at the same time the spells are prepared, and the new spell slots may not be changed until the next time you prepare spells.

You cannot use Spell Combination to gain access to spell levels above those you can normally cast, nor may you combine spell slots from different spellcasting classes. Spell Combination will never allow more than a 50% increase in the number of spells per day of any given spell level. For example, if a wizard can usually cast 2 fifth level spells per day, this feat would allow no more than 3 fifth level spells per day. Spells that are not prepared may not benefit from this feat. Bonus spells, domain spells, and spell-like abilities cannot be affected with this feat. Unallocated spell slots are lost.

Special: This Feat can only be learned at the Great School of Magic in Glantri, or by studying under an alumni of the school who has the Feat.

This ability originally appeared in a slightly different form in GAZ3: The Principalities of Glantri.

I too have never heard of this second feat. There are classes for (proficiency, skills etc) Agility training (casting while moving), conjure companion (find familiar), learning languages, Mandragora (sleep potion, truth serum, manakin creation), Meditation (increased INT for checks), quick casting, and spell combination (early spell point system). Ahhhh the days of a quick casting spell combiner........those were good days.

I am not using 3e so I am not familiar with the new procedures for spells. I have played NWN but that is not the same

I thought I would dig up this old thread because I recently decided that "Spell Combination" was not an accurate name for this ability as a 3.5 Feat. The name "Spell Combination," to someone unfamiliar with GAZ3 would seem to imply that two or more spells are being combined in some way. An existing 3.x Feat called Twin Spell already exists to cover this ability.

So I changed the name for the Feat for my 3.5 Mystara campaign to one suggested by one of my players: Arcane Amalgamation. He even went on to add that "Arcane Amalgamation" is merely the shorthand version of the ability's full name of "Klaus VonHeffenweizen's Mystical Treatise of the Amalgamation of Arcane Power" - a suitably weighty moniker that fits well with the Feat's Glantrian origins.

Here is the revised Feat as of last night:
Arcane Amalgamation [General]

You cannot use Arcane Amalgamation to gain access to spell levels above those you can normally cast, nor may you combine spell slots from different spellcasting classes. Arcane Amalgamation will never allow more than a 50% increase in the number of spells per day of any given spell level.

This ability originally appeared in a slightly different form called Spell Combination in GAZ3: The Principalities of Glantri.

or Arcane Flexibility?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I still prefer Arcane Amalgamation.
