What's the deal with all the different Gazateers? I counted five of them at my FLGS. What are they?

I'm a relative noob to Ravenloft so please bear with my ignorance.

Thanks,

Ed

The Gazetteer are a supplement of the campaign setting that details each domains, their landscape, habitant, lord and dread lords. If you want to run a deep ravenloft campaign in a particular domain, it s a must have that provide you with a lot of small details and adventures hook.

To clarify the differences, each one covers 3-5 domains:

I: Barovia, Forlorn, Kartakass, Hazlan
II: Darkon, Necropolis, Falkovnia, Lamordia
III: Dementlieu, Mordent, Richmulot
IV: Borca, Sithicus, Invidia, Valachan, Verbrek
V: Nova Vaasa, Tepest, Keening, The Shadow Rift

Does anyone know if they actually contain 3e stats for the Darklords themselves??

The first three Gaz contain the 3.0 stats of the darklords (modified and improved upon from the stats contained in Secrets of the Dread Realms) while the forth and fifth Gaz have the lord's stats in 3.5.
Additionally, the Gaz contain local NPCs and personalities of note from local heroes or villians to political leader (some Gaz more than others).
They also alamgamate and update all references to the domains in the previously published (ie 2E) advantures, novels and the like as well as complete histories for all the lords above and beyond anything published earlier.

Not yet....

Last we heard Gaz VI would cover one or both of the Seas. (I think it was only one, but I don't remember which was first.) There's been no official announcement when the Gaz series will start up again other than that the series was "taking a break" for 2005. Whether that means we will see Gaz VI in 2006 or not is up for interpretation. We also heard that the intent was to eventually cover all the domains, including some new ones. So if and when the series does start up again, expect Vechor in VI or VII and Vorostokov some time later depending on the order of the clusters/islands.

In addition to everything already mentioned, they also contain info on Language, government, culture, food, recommended feats/classes/races/names for characters from the domain, and expanded info on religions practiced in the domain, as well as a few new feats, new spells, new magic items, new prestige classes, and new monsters likely to be found in the domain.

In brief, nearly everything there is to know about the place.

Thank you, Gonzoron!

To be honest, I don't think we will ever see the other Gazs...
The developers have centered their work on the core and might want to push the setting forward. I mean, even with the Gazs, the core's still full of mysteries and *on the run* developments, one would really like to hear more about...

However, I'd be delighted to see an update to these domains!

Personnaly, if all the domain were disponible, i would have buy the one with the amber waste and G'Henna first.

I found on an old thread of the FoS what seem to be the original plan, it unnoficial of course:

For the record, since it's all moot now, the final evolution of the Kargatane plan called for a total of 13 gazetteers (up from the original 11).
Vol. VI: The Nocturnal Sea.
Vol. VII: The Sea of Sorrows.
Vol. VIII: Souragne and the Verdurous Lands.
Vol. IX: The Amber Wastes and G'Henna.
Vol. X: The Shadowlands and... an island of terror, which one I can't recall.
Vol. XI: The Frozen Reaches and Zherizia.
Vol. XII: Several islands of terror. About half the domains in this volume and the next would be entirely new.
Vol. XIII: More islands of terror, concluding with Bluetspur.

Can anyone please tell me if Gwydion the Sorcerer-Fiend from the Shadow Rift has been statted, and if so then roughly how he's been statted please?!?

Gwydion is a scary-powerful being and we only have his trapped stats as he's more of a god when free. Some of his abilities are found in the Book of Vile Darkness though.

Wow, FIVE Gazs on the shelf? I envy you. Here's a problem I've been having, hopefully someone can feel my pain.

I'm out here in MA and I can't find a single Gaz anywhere! Not Barnes & Nobles, not Waldons books, nowhere. THEY can't even find them in the computer to order them for me!

Without a credit card or paypal account, I can't get stuff off the net. So what's a guy like me to do? I need G4 and Legacies of Blood badly!

Most bookstores do not carry RL stuff because it does not sell well. See if your FLGS can order it for you.

I'm in Mexico and bought all of them in my local gamestore. Furthermore, they still have Gaz 2-5 available. Boy, am I not lucky?

There is a difference between a regular bookstore(such as Border's for example) and a FLGS(Friendly Local Gaming Store). To some, those whom possess the ability to differentiate between the two, the differences(between said places) are readily apparent.
