#1pringlesApr 07, 2005 23:53:36 | I just found this on the old board and tough it was funny. I wanted to share; http://boards1.wizards.com/archive/index.php/t-78897.html ELVEN RAID ON CARAVAN: Player: "The elven raiders are shooting at us? I take cover under the mekillot. How much bonus do I get to AC?" GM (evil grin): "Total cover." MERCHANT HOUSE OF AMKETCH (SPOILER WARNING!!!): PC: "Bezrak, someone's smuggling Shaqat beetles on your caravan." Bezrak: "Let's talk about this in my quarters. Stug, come with us" DRAGON'S CROWN - IN HAMANU'S PALACE: A PC looks through the keyhole on the door to the meeting chamber when someone taps his shoulder. NPC: "What are you doing?" PC: "Shhh. Go away. Hamanu ordered me to watch the meeting chamber." NPC: "Funny, I can't remember giving that order." PC: "... Oh, ****" VEILED ALLIANCE MEETING: PC: "Are you threatening me? Just wait until I tell the templars about your little underground organization. You're SO dead." PC #2: "WE're so dead." GM: /nods "Hey, just how many tembo are in here, anyway?" "We're only going on a three day trip we only need three days worth of water..." "Oh boy, am I hungry. Luck! A halfling camp! Maybe they invite us for dinner..." Elf thief to a thri-kreen: "Hey, bug-face! I'm talkin' to you. That's right, you. Move outta my way!" **(To a Urikite Templar) Do you have the same outfit within the Inner city as they have in Nibenay, cuz that should be a laugh!! The PCs arrive at the Nibenay South gates... GM: There are many different species, etc. etc. as well as a couple of cute clothed, half-naked or naked ladies talking among the crowd. PC: Geez man, I try an "attraction power on the naked one". GM: You see two half-giants coming your way... Quotes from an old game that lead to character demises: "I charge up the dune." "I think we can trust them." After being attacked by an elven raiding tribe: "Stop firing, we surrender!" *Half-giant PC, in the tunnels leading to Kragmorta at the lava flow cutting the path* "It's only 25ft wide, I can jump that." NPC Dwarf: "If you strike me down I will haunt you for eternity!!" PC: "He's bluffing! Kill him!" PC7: "...don't be afraid guys! this are just anakores! I know everything about them!..." (as the entire caravn was being slowly sucked into the sand...) Here one from my campaign PC fighting agaisnt a rampaging So-ut: ``I set myself to receive the charge.`` Share yours. |

#3pringlesApr 09, 2005 17:34:44 | C'mon, you people can do better. |
#4lyricApr 09, 2005 17:41:10 | I know, where is everyone?? Mine were mostly lame, but somebody has to post something. |
#5pringlesApr 09, 2005 17:47:21 | This forum start to be boring. All we have are discussion about Avangion, Rajaat and Lynn Abey book. It's always the same. It's like people were just interested in Dark sun cause of the Advanced being and Hamanu fate. |
#6GrummoreApr 09, 2005 17:53:02 | This forum start to be boring. All we have are discussion about Avangion, Rajaat and Lynn Abey book. It's always the same. It's like people were just interested in Dark sun cause of the Advanced being and Hamanu fate. You are right, but each time someone try to put something new out, there is just some few post in is thread then everybody no longer get interested in helping. Sooo nobody is interested in trying to build new stuff... Sad isnt? That's not that dark, but not far. Of course, I cannot say that I actively help the forum these days, I am really busy. |
#7lyricApr 09, 2005 18:05:29 | I dont claim to be familiar enough with 3.0/3.5 rules to be able to properly craft anything new, but I like to think I have a decent imagination and a small flair for a style of sorts, so I like to keep my thoughts concept based, flowing more towards story rather than game mechanics.. like designing a new power and letting someone else determine level and such... Heck, I don't even own any 3.5 books.. read a couple of my brother's 3.0 books though.. and I'm an old school 2E-er so I have some concept of how the game works, but I'd bet those who play the d20 system can probably dance circles around anything i could come up with.. It's true though, that most of the posts here are about Avangions, Rajaat, and those books.. I'll admit to my first interest in DS being the ability to become an AB... (we played montey haul type games a lot.. you know, 6th level characters gifted with a half dozen ioun stones and near artifact level weapons armor and equipment..) I'd like to hear some stuff on expanding the game playing universe of Athas.. more places to play in that big sand box.. make it just as large and varied as FR.. but I don't see that happening much.. Think the Athas.org types might open their own msg board for members that wanna create stuff? eh, not likely :P still, at least their doing something.. |

#9pringlesApr 09, 2005 18:12:37 | Your right Lyric. This forum have turned boring cause the only thing people talk about are; 1. Rhullisti 2. Rajaat 3. Who were the champions (How many debate you need?) 4. Dragon and Avangion 5. Template Feat and game mecanic. There nearly no talk about; - Sorcerer king now - The city state - Elf - Slave - Dwarf - Halfling - Half-giant - Giant - Mul - Human - Half-elf - Gladiator - Defiler/Preserver - Templar - Ranger - Druide - Fighter - Bard - Thief - Trader - Cleric - Weapons - Terrain - Sandy waste - Stonnyn barrens - Ruins - Monster - Merchant house - Life under the crimson sun - money - War - Arena - Water consumption - SCENARIO IDEA You know, there a lot of thing more interesting in Dark sun to talk about other than having your character turn Advanced being or if Rise and fall of a dragon king is canon or not. |
#10lyricApr 09, 2005 18:29:56 | I tossed up a thread on unique additions to Athas that people added to their campaigns but that quickly dwindled into an AB thread :P however, there were some ideas... problem is, most people I think really do like Athas for it's High powered capabilities.. if you want role playing and intrigue, any game world will do, if you want something on philosphy, Dragon Lance has everything split between good neutrality and evil.. if you want a horror movie, with undead and monsters, there's Ravenloft (forgive me, never played, but heard stories) what really makes Athas unique?? If you read descriptions about it, it sounds really lame.. eco blasted world where magic destroys life and slavery is common, tyrants rule and everything would kill ya as soon as look at ya.. (its like being a foreigner in a 3rd world country :P with a twist :P) lol but seriously, we each love something about the world, but few people who play role playing games actually "role" play, they "roll" play, turning things into a shooter/fighter style video game rather than an intricate story.. when was the last time anyone came up against a really frustrating recurring villain?? someone petty and mean and a downright pain in the butt! who always manages to escape and cause more problems next time, who turns up in the oddest places and who somehow seems to always be a step ahead! (like the arch villain of the Doctor in Doctor Who.. british tv sci fi.. what was that guys name? oh yeah the Master hehe) |
#11zombiegleemaxApr 10, 2005 0:36:12 | I personally love DS's capacity for intrigue. In Forgotten Realms, you're either from a good city, like silverymoon; a neutral, city like waterdeep, or some hellhole like menzoberranzan or thay. If you're in a good city, you like it there, and adventures are going to center around keeping it that way. If you're in a neutral city, you are probably doing pretty well for yourself, and adventures are probably going to be the same. If youre in an Evil city, you probably are going to spend as little time as possible there, unless your character is from that city, in which case you're probably playing a character who's a bit of an outsider for the entire campaign. Being in that city is dangerous because you all stick out like sore thumbs, and a toe out of line means you could end up without a toe. On Athas, surviving in these cities is a matter of course. There isn't any Silverymoon or Waterdeep or Dalelands to run home to, have a few pints, buy some magic, and feel safe and secure in. The best you are going to do is Tyr, and even then the council has it's corruption. The characters have more freedom to go against the status quo; in fact, it's the heroic thing to do. If your character is from somewhere that values peace and prosperity, you're the exception instead of the rule. So many of the dynamics of typical campaigns are reversed on Athas. It's so refreshing; I love it. |
#12lyricApr 10, 2005 4:37:33 | you know, this thread isn't anything about what it was originally supposed to be, but it's kinda interesting hearing people say what they want isn't it?? and it's kinda nice having a funny intro to the thread kind of like having a friendly welcome :P |
#13jon_oracle_of_athasApr 10, 2005 6:16:14 | Think the Athas.org types might open their own msg board for members that wanna create stuff? eh, not likely still, at least their doing something.. No, we're not allowed by Wizards to have our own boards. |
#14jon_oracle_of_athasApr 10, 2005 6:17:19 | - Defiler/Preserver No, that never comes up. :P |
#15terminus_vortexaApr 10, 2005 10:39:03 | En passant Grummore, est-ce que je peux t'envoyer mes campagne que j'ai écrit pour que tu les place sur ton site? You know, much like speaking in public, it is very rude to speak in a language other than the common one in a forum. If you want to post something most won't understand, why not send an email or a private message? |
#16zombiegleemaxApr 10, 2005 11:13:09 | www.freetranslation.com :P I hafta interject on that invective. is not wise to gripe at the bread on the table when theres nothing in the kitchen. for the vast majority of the dark sun community this forum represents the last straw. sure there are fansites, at least one other informal forum, a web ring, there will always be devoted. but this is a formal and convenient gathering for the fans. people here because they want to be, and talk about the issues relevant to them. if thats avangions and hamanu, so be it. i mean if you dont like it, don't participate? but don't complain for the luv of rhul. ya cant change people...just aggravate them :P plus there are like 50 pages of threads, i'd be careful to overgeneralize the content that has come down through the ages... so this is the beloved forum, take it or leave it as is |
#17gabApr 10, 2005 11:43:30 | To keep this on-topic, I compiled a list of Famous Athasian Last Words, in the summer of '98 (IIRC) from contributions to the DSML. http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/shadows/Handbook/LastWords.html |
Ship now! and be hosted soon! :D |
#19KamelionApr 10, 2005 13:39:05 | Ah, the happy, happy memories... “No, I’m sure that one guard per shift will be enough.” (A silk wyrm came in the night, paralysed the guarding PC with a surprise attack and carried her off to be devoured. The player was asked to roll a save, failed it, and that was that. Nobody ever discovered what had happened, even the player concerned, until many, many months later). “It’s OK guys – I’m eighty feet down the shaft and I haven’t found a single trap yet.” (There was a trap. It cut the PC’s rope 20 feet above his head and he fell the remaining 160 feet to his death at the bottom of the shaft). “Oh yeah? Well, in that case, I am leaving. DM, I set out across the desert on my own. I’m sure I’ll reach the road before long.” (In fact, he made it to within 8 miles of the road, at which point he encountered four b’rohg…) “I will block the progress of the fire elemental with my body!” (Pretty obvious, this one…) “I fly directly at Kalak’s head, squawking as terrifyingly as I can!” (Took place during Kalak’s transformation at the end of “Freedom”. Scratch one brave aarakocra.) |
#20pringlesApr 11, 2005 0:32:35 | but few people who play role playing games actually "role" play, they "roll" play, turning things into a shooter/fighter style video game rather than an intricate story.. when was the last time anyone came up against a really frustrating recurring villain?? someone petty and mean and a downright pain in the butt! who always manages to escape and cause more problems next time, who turns up in the oddest places and who somehow seems to always be a step ahead! (like the arch villain of the Doctor in Doctor Who.. british tv sci fi.. what was that guys name? oh yeah the Master hehe) Not true at all. You should play in my game, you would be pretty disapointed. In my game, the role-play are the most important thing. If you wanna play munchkins, you dont belong in my game. I think dark sun is the D&D wolrd with Ravenloft that offer the best role-play situation and idea. My player have a lot of problem with two recurring vilain. An elf defiler/fighter named Leornis and an Urikite Templar. |
