Time for another status update on athas.org product development:

Dregoth Ascending Part II: The much awaited sequal to Dregoth Ascending Part I will be released on schedule (June 31st). Judging by the current productivity rate, I dare to say it could be done sooner. It's about 70% done. The full title will be Dregoth Ascending part II - The Quest.

Terrors of the Deadlands 3.5 update: The Monster Bureau reports that the updated version of TotD is right around the corner. It has undergone major revisions and includes some new elements, among them a new athasian undead.

DS Core Rules 3.5: The Psionics Chapter is done along with the Spells Chapter. A release is right around the corner, there are some details we need to hammer out and editorial work left.

Dark Sun Prestige Class Appendix Vol. I: I've received some comments, which has lead to the preview version being updated twice. So make sure you get the latest version.

Dragon Rules: A finalized draft of the Dragon Rules are being reviewed internally in the Epic Bureau before they will be released to the public. In other words, these are also right around the corner.

Other projects: Secrets of the Deadlands, The Emissary, Lost Cities. These projects are either put on hold, or progressing slowly.

In other words, you have a lot to look forward to the upcoming months!

Why is your kreen dragon named after an old sci-fi roleplaying game?

Jon, please elaborate. I'm going to be horrified if this is true. I just took a couple of latin words (terminus) and (vertex) loosely translated meaning The End of the Vortex, and fudged the spelling a little bit, and improperly declined the nouns to personalize it, to come up with the name. A little more info, please! :raincloud

When I came up with the name, I even Google-searched, and many other searches, to make sure that it was unique. No matches containing both words were ever found. The only ones you'll find now are my posts on these boards.

I'm sure Jon meant June 32nd. He did send me the special calendar they use in Norway, a bit contrived but still matching the modern calendar.

Ahh yes, as do I (and for a while, it has/had been passed around through these forums, and were found on my currently defunct website). In actuality, a multitude of people who have posted on these forums have come up with their own rules. The difference with what Jon is mentioning is that those Dragon Rules are to be the official rules released by Athas.org. They are being designed by a number of us in the Epic Bureau at Athas.org, to retain the requisites for being D&D3.5E (and thus, official Dark Sun material as per the agreement with WotC), simple, efficient, and keeping as true to the feel of Dark Sun as we can.

The reason we are focusing on Dragons first is due largely in part with Dregoth Ascending (something about needing the rules to generate Dregoth need to be in place in order to get him done). However, it will not be all we put out, I expect that Avangions, actually, would be next, and be able to be developed a bit quicker, as we'll have a lot of the framework in place already from doing Dragons. But then, there also is the Cleric-Elementals, and the Spirits of the Land to produce, plus other Epic details for Dark Sun (like, for instance, the Mind Lords, epic spell/power seeds, epic items, epic feats, etc).

The rules for the cleric-elementals should be the easiest to come up with, unless there is a significant revision from the old idea.

It's all a matter of priority. People want Dregoth Ascention to be released, completed and such. For that, Dragon rules come first. People usually connect Dragons with Avangions in this regard, and Avangions are frequently the 2nd most popular of the Advanced Being types anyway, so, they come second. Then come Cleric-Elementals and Spirits of the Land. It's not a matter of what is easier or not, it's a matter of what's on the docket, in order of priority.

All I can say is.. I can't wait

I wanna see what happens when people see the rules for them, I wanna see what people will do to overcharge their characters at that point Epic AB battles and magic items for such characters... (no epic character should be limited to 'normal' magic items, nor should they use them less than magnificently compared to lesser characters

Maybe get the planes to have a battle on Athas.. for the first time in centuries, maybe that's a recurring effect... first time was when the brown tide was released.. and the cost was huge... now.. who will be the victor???

Cheers, I knew there must be a good reason I wasn't seeing

I'm in the process of updating all of the encounter tables in the 2e monstrous compendiums and wanted to make sure I got the CR's correct. I quite really like the Sandstorm/Frostburn style tables where the DM can choose the EL and get a ready made encounter so I'm going to try something like that

If it works and I'll post it somewhere for everyone to have a look at it. I'm staying as faithful as possible to the original tables

I think you should reread what Xlorep posted. There's no hostility there. He is a member of the templarate that designs the 3.5 versions of the DS Epic Classes, and he was doing us all the courtesy of explaining the reasoning behind the order in which they are doing things, and in a matter-of-fact way.

Sorry , I quess he just came off as condescending to me. Its hard to know how someone means something, when you can't hear their voice and they don't use icons . I've seen several other people take offense from his posts to so I didn't think I was just imagining it, but I guess I was (no sarcasm intended).

Please accept my apology, xlore

This emoticon just about sums up most of his posts
As emoticons go its neither pedantic nor self-involved. Xlor usually posts when he writes new material or when he knows a better way to do something, and he'll tell you why he does so, with the logic behind it.

No worries. like the others stated, I was merely explaining the processes, 'matter-of-factly'. It's something I routinely do. I don't like having anyone be condescending to me, and wouldn't think about being condescending to others. Word of advice - don't assume the worst when people make posts :P

Project status update:

Dark Sun 3.5 Core Rules: A preview version was released yesterday. While reviewers report typos etc. an illustrated version is being developed.

Dregoth Ascending Part II: Scheduled for public playtesting June 30th, the second part of the Dregoth Ascending trilogy might be released without art. Rest assured, art will be in the final release.

Terrors of Athas 3.5 [Monster Bureau]: A revised version of Terrors of Athas 3.5 is still in the works. Some rare critters escaped us last time, but we hope to have caught them this time. Thanks to all you reavers out there. Hopefully, this will be done before autumn.

Advanced Beings [Epic Bureau]: We got a lot of good feedback from the Dark Sun community on the dragon rules preview, much of which we are incorporating into the advanced being rules. Hopefully we will release revised dragon rules within two weeks.

Athasian Arms and Equipment Guide [Equipment Bureau]: This project is progressing at regular mekillot pace. It is a large project which was started earlier this year with no set deadline.

Other projects are either on hold or progressing slowly.
