Apr 11, 2005 1:02:56 Hey, I just wanted to ask everyone what their opinions of the two types of Dark Sun that have been released as of late: The version created by Athas.org or the one In dragon number 319? Thank you for your thoughts.

However, I'm in the beginning of an experimental home-brew conversion of using the Grim Tales rules as a foundation, the Black Company Campaign Setting magic sytem, and Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook... just to see what I can come up with flavorwise.

Apr 11, 2005 3:15:42 I've gone with GURPS before, as I'm not a huge fan of 3e or 3.5e. As far as material and base goes, though, I use Athas.org.

I do have a number of house rules that I use however, changes to the races (mostly ability score adjusments) and racial class restriction that aren't talked about in that material.

It didn't seem like they even did their research at Dragon Magazine for that article. I mean seriously, Paladins? Where the hell do they get their divine power from?!? And Half-Giants barely larger than the size of a Mul, that's pretty lame and not really worthy of the name Half-Giant if you ask me. I do have to admit that their were a few mechanics that I liked from that article, but not many.

Like Eric, something much closer to the Athas.org system. actually, I don't use any of the systems from the magazines. I do have my own variant rules I've devised for several things, and borrowed some ideas of others from these forums (notably Nytcrawlr's Half-Giant, Psi-Monk, etc).

Ammendment: I do use the Erudite from the magazines, but it's not a class specific to Dark Sun, just happened to be in the same magazine with the Dark Sun stuff.

I use the Dragon Magazine races except for the Half Giant(I use the Athas.org HG), but I use the Dragon Magazine Defiler, and certain events from Dungeon Mag, like the rise of Aztetuk as an SK and the return of Androponis. I also include Dragon Magazine classes like the Erudite and PrCs like the Mind Mage (Which is, bar none, the perfect Prestige Class to get you qualifications for Dragonhood under you belt. ) I use the Athas.org Prestige Classes and all other supplements (Like TotDL)as well.
